Lenovo shares closed Friday at EUR 3.11, up 2.1%, as a broad recovery in technology stocks and easing concerns over how artificial intelligence projects will be financed combined with a pair of company-specific catalysts. The advance in European trading followed an even sharper move in Hong Kong, where the stock staged an 8% rebound during Asian hours.

The trigger for that Asian rally was a public nod from Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang, who named Lenovo explicitly as one of the US chipmaker's corporate partners. The endorsement landed alongside a string of operational announcements from the hardware group, giving investors fresh reason to look past the volatility that has defined the stock's recent run.

On-premises architecture keeps data in-house

Among those announcements was a joint solution with IBM and Nvidia for what the three companies call Sovereign AI Inference. The on-premises architecture blends technology from all three firms and is designed to run compute-heavy AI workloads inside corporate customers' own data centres.

Under the approach, sensitive company data, language models, prompts, context data and caches all remain on local servers. The closed infrastructure is meant to satisfy strict data-sovereignty and security requirements without relying on external cloud capacity.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Lenovo?

Lenovo is also offering validated configurations for AI infrastructure, with selected systems slated for delivery within 15 working days — a response to corporate buyers' growing need for compute capacity that can be deployed quickly. Beyond the data centre, the company is pushing into adjacent segments, with integration of its system for autonomous trucks scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. Its technology roadmap will take centre stage at Lenovo Tech World on 6 January 2027 at CES in Las Vegas, where the focus will be on the company's direction in hybrid AI.

ESG leadership defended

On the same day as the AI unveiling, Lenovo disclosed the outcome of the annual review of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index Series. The group held its place in three indices in the series and retained a AAA rating in sustainability for 2026. Across the environmental, social and governance pillars, it posted the highest overall score in the technology sector — a repeat top placement that underscores its adherence to international ESG standards in day-to-day operations.

Momentum intact despite distance from September peak

The longer-term picture captures just how wide the stock's trading range has been. At current levels, the shares sit 26% below their 52-week high of EUR 4.21, reached in mid-September. Even so, the year-to-date gain stands at 202%, fuelled by sustained demand in the server and data-centre business.

Friday's move marked a clear counter-swing after losses in the previous session. What comes next hinges on the company's next reporting date, when management presents its half-year figures in November. That release should show how the higher-margin AI infrastructure business is feeding through to earnings — and whether the pivot beyond the traditional PC market, toward supplying complex computing architectures, can hold up on margins as demand for the joint Nvidia configurations plays out over the coming quarters.
