Lenzing's capital-raising chapter closed on Wednesday, but the operational questions it was meant to fund are still running. Within days of the EUR 301.2 million gross proceeds landing, a board member has put his own money into the stock and the company has quietly extended the life of one of its production sites.

Christian Skilich, a member of Lenzing's management board, purchased 1,710 shares on the Vienna Stock Exchange today at EUR 8.65 apiece. That is precisely the issue price Lenzing set for the new shares in its rights offering, a symmetry that frames the transaction without explaining it: the purchase is a personal investment decision, and it says nothing on its own about how the business will perform.

A bigger register, and a new yardstick

The capital increase, completed Wednesday, drew subscriptions for 99% of the offering through the exercise of rights, with the syndicate banks selling the unsubscribed shares on the market. The proceeds are earmarked for strengthening the capital structure and backing the "Grow Nonwovens, Reset Textiles" strategy.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Lenzing?

What changed mechanically yesterday is the share count. The Vienna Stock Exchange processed an increase of 34,756,362 shares, lifting the total to 73,374,542. Investors now have a larger base against which future per-share earnings will be measured — a shift in the denominator, not evidence of anything happening in the mills. A high take-up rate demonstrates demand for the paper, not an improvement in operations.

Heiligenkreuz gets extra time

On the operational side, Lenzing disclosed yesterday that it has pushed back the planned end of production at Heiligenkreuz from the end of 2026 to the end of the first quarter of 2027. According to the company, the longer run is intended to allow the transfer to other sites and to build inventory so that customers can be supplied without interruption. Talks with interested parties about a possible takeover of the site have been running in parallel, leaving a sale as a live option rather than a settled outcome.

Goldman lifts its stake

Shareholder registers have moved as well. Goldman Sachs reported on Tuesday a Lenzing voting position of 4.01% in total, up from 3.86%, comprising both shares and financial instruments. The disclosure describes a voting position, not a verdict on the company's prospects.

The next scheduled checkpoint is the quarterly statement on 5 November, when investors can set the completed financing beside actual business development. The distinction matters: raising equity and deploying it well are two separate steps, and neither the boardroom purchase nor the rights price linkage bridges them.
