Jefferies has reaffirmed its "Hold" rating on LVMH with a price target of 415 euros, but analyst James Grzinic used the same note to cut his 2027 estimates below the market consensus. His reasoning is straightforward: demand conditions remain unfavourable. The neutral stance therefore rests less on valuation than on a nagging worry that the business could undershoot what the market is expecting.

The stock was changing hands at €409.55, sitting below the unchanged Jefferies target — a gap that fits the cautious call. Grzinic reads the recent share-price recovery as the market moving closer to his own view, which argues for restraint until weaker demand offers a cheaper entry into the earnings story. His lowered forecasts, meanwhile, sharpen the focus on operating risk.

Affordability vs. prestige

At the heart of the debate is how LVMH keeps its products desirable. Bernstein analyst Luca Solca points to persistent demand weakness in China as a drag, alongside deglobalisation and artificial intelligence. For 2027, he expects the group to tackle the affordability of its products — balancing accessibility against desirability without denting prestige. It is a delicate tightrope: greater affordability could support demand provided the goods retain their special pull. For investors, the question is whether LVMH can add purchase incentives while protecting the appeal of its brands.

The third-quarter 2026 figures, published just over three weeks ago, supply the operating backdrop. Organic revenue in fashion and leather goods fell 5%, while selective retailing, including Sephora, grew 8% organically. That divergence maps the group's pressure points: retail contributed growth, but fashion and leather goods were held back by soft Chinese demand. A broader improvement depends heavily on that division winning back shoppers.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying LVMH?

Governance and disclosure in the spotlight

Alongside the demand question, the group has been busy on other fronts. LVMH reported 494,606,080 outstanding shares and 743,358,184 gross voting rights as of the 31 October record date, with net voting rights at 739,382,278 in its mandatory disclosure.

French investigators are also examining LVMH's role in its historical purchase of Hermès shares, according to Le Monde, which reported on 30 October that the probe is under way. A day earlier the paper had covered the questioning of LVMH executive Jean-Jacques Guiony in the judicial investigation into the Hermès share dispute. That report raised questions about LVMH's role but identified no wrongdoing, and no link between the coverage and the recent share move has been established. The stock slipped 1.2% yesterday.

Creative change at Vuitton, restructuring at Zenith

At Louis Vuitton, a personnel decision is pending in creative brand leadership. According to media reports, the company announced on 23 October the appointment of Hector Muelas to head creative brand management, effective 1 November.

Change is also afoot at the watch brand Zenith. Roughly two weeks ago Reuters reported that employee consultations had begun over a proposed repositioning toward higher-priced watches. Up to 100 positions at the Le Locle site and around 100 international roles could be at risk, though a final headcount was not confirmed. Zenith chief Benoit de Clerck reportedly described a three-year overhaul involving store closures through 2029, with most existing collections to be discontinued. The brand cited sustained financial losses as the reason for action.

For now, Jefferies has set a cautious benchmark: a more favourable view of LVMH would require demand to dispel that reservation, and Solca's emphasis on affordability names one possible route — if the group can marry accessibility with prestige.
