Marvell's Data Center Engine Meets Its December 1 Audit
Published on 11/07/2026 at 06:41 | Editorial boerse-global.deMarvell Technology has spent the past week giving investors two very different things to think about: a share price that moved with the wider chip sector rather than with any company news, and a business whose fortunes now rest overwhelmingly on a single end market.
The stock climbed 6.2% in the latest session as investors rotated back into beaten-down semiconductor names following a sharp technology selloff the day before. Coverage of the move framed it as part of that sector-wide recovery, not as a reaction to anything Marvell itself announced.
A business built on one pillar
What Marvell did disclose is that data centers accounted for 79% of revenue in the second quarter of fiscal 2027. That concentration is the central fact of the investment case. Management guided for roughly 75% year-over-year growth in data center revenue for the following quarter — a forecast that now serves as the key operational yardstick for the company.
The exposure cuts both ways. So long as customers keep pouring money into artificial intelligence infrastructure, the concentration is a powerful growth engine. Any delay in those buildouts, however, would land hard precisely because data centers make up so much of the top line. Investors are left weighing both demand and the pace at which customer projects actually get executed.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Marvell Technology?
Lumentum deal adds a second yardstick
Alongside the organic story sits the agreed acquisition of Lumentum, which Marvell plans to settle entirely in stock. Lumentum shareholders are to receive 4.5 Marvell shares for each of their holdings, with the announcement putting Lumentum's implied enterprise value at $115 billion. Reuters reported the agreement.
Management expects annual cost synergies exceeding $1 billion from the combination and a higher adjusted earnings per share in the first year after closing. Those targets sketch out the economic case — provided the savings materialize and integration goes smoothly. Completion is anticipated in the first half of 2028, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.
Guidance held, and a routine insider sale
Marvell also said preliminary revenue for the third quarter of fiscal 2027 is in line with its existing forecast. Full quarterly results and the accompanying conference call are scheduled for December 1, 2026.

A regulatory filing meanwhile showed a sale from leadership ranks: the family trust of Chris Koopmans, Marvell's president and chief operating officer, disposed of 10,000 shares on Monday. The transaction was executed under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan established on June 16.
What December 1 will actually measure
When the numbers land, the revenue figure will be the first checkpoint. Just as important will be whether the outlook signals that data center demand is still running — the difference between a growth assumption that can be rolled forward and one that needs revisiting. With nearly four-fifths of sales tied to that single market, and a stock-for-stock takeover adding its own integration and dilution considerations, the December update carries more weight than a typical quarterly print.
