The market's verdict on Nebius has swung between euphoria and caution for months, and Tuesday's session offered a snapshot of both impulses in a single trading day. Shares of the AI infrastructure provider climbed 4.52 percent to close at 166.96 euros after Reuters confirmed that Reflection AI, a startup focused on open AI models, had signed a multi-year agreement worth more than $1 billion for computing capacity — including access to Nvidia's GB300 chips. The deal, first reported in mid-July and reaffirmed this week, runs through 2029 and gives Nebius a marquee customer at a moment when investors are demanding proof that demand for data centers is more than speculative froth.

That proof arrives today, when Nebius reports second-quarter results before the US market opens. The consensus calls for revenue of roughly $573 million, a year-over-year jump of about 446 percent, alongside a net loss of approximately $0.72 per share. The bar is high, and the stock's recent trajectory suggests the market is not in a forgiving mood.

A Stock Caught Between Momentum and Skepticism

Tuesday's gain — which some outlets pegged at 4.68 percent, putting the close at 167.00 euros — was a welcome reprieve, but it did little to dent the broader downtrend. Over the past seven sessions, Nebius has shed 11.78 percent, and the 30-day picture shows a decline of 9.70 percent. The shares currently sit roughly 36 percent below their 52-week high of 261.00 euros, reached in late June, and remain 13.56 percent under the 50-day moving average of 193.16 euros — a technical signal that the recent bounce has yet to reverse the medium-term slide.

The pullback reflects more than profit-taking. Investors have grown increasingly vocal about execution risks, the scale of planned capital expenditures, and the potential for insider selling ahead of the earnings print. Nebius's growth story is not in dispute — the company closed the first quarter with revenue of $399 million, up 684 percent year over year, and a positive adjusted EBITDA of $129.5 million. But the bottom line told a more nuanced story: a net result of $621.2 million included a non-cash valuation gain, while the adjusted net loss came in at $100.3 million.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nebius?

The Capital Intensity Question

The central tension for Nebius — and for the broader AI infrastructure sector — is that growth requires enormous upfront investment, and the market remains split on whether that spending will pay off. In May, the company raised its 2026 capex target from $16–20 billion to $20–25 billion, alongside securing 1.2 gigawatts of power and land capacity in Pennsylvania. Late last month, it added a secured credit facility of roughly $775 million, backed by installed GPU infrastructure and existing cash-flow contracts, to fund the expansion of its AI cloud business.

Citigroup captured the prevailing ambivalence in early August: the bank trimmed its price target on Nebius from $287 to $278 while maintaining a Buy rating. It is a telling adjustment — reaffirming confidence in the growth narrative while quietly recalibrating valuation models to reflect a more cautious outlook.

A Fresh Face in the C-Suite

Amid the financial maneuvering, Nebius has also reshuffled its leadership. Earlier this month, the company named Lindsey Irvine as its new Chief Marketing Officer, a move framed as preparation for accelerated global expansion following a year of record growth. Irvine arrives from Square, where she oversaw global marketing for more than 4.5 million merchants, and previously served as CMO at Benchling and MuleSoft — where recurring annual revenue grew from $250 million to over $1 billion during her tenure.

What Today's Numbers Must Answer

For the full year, Nebius has guided to revenue of $3.0–3.4 billion with an adjusted EBITDA margin of roughly 40 percent — targets that today's report will inevitably be measured against. The more immediate question, though, is whether the Reflection AI deal is a one-off or the first sign of a broader pattern that can underpin the growth story.

The other is whether management can convince investors that its capital spending ambitions are proportionate to the opportunity — or whether the market will continue to treat every new investment dollar as a potential liability if demand ever falters. The stock has become a barometer for confidence in the AI supercycle itself, and today's numbers will go a long way toward determining which of Nebius's two narratives — the unstoppable infrastructure champion or the capital-hungry contender in an oversupplied market — gains the upper hand in the months ahead.
