Nel ASA's Q3 Report Is the Only Thing That Matters Now
Published on 10/09/2026 at 18:50 | Editorial boerse-global.deNel ASA has officially called investors to the table. The Norwegian hydrogen specialist will publish its third-quarter 2026 financial report on October 15, 2026, at 07:00 CET, with a virtual results presentation and investor Q&A following at 08:00 CET. Until those detailed figures land, the market has little else to trade on — and the stock's recent behavior suggests shareholders know it.
The shares are hovering near their yearly low, changing hands at EUR 0.1824 in the run-up to the release. That level sits just 5.4% above the 52-week trough of EUR 0.1731, a line that now functions as the immediate support floor. On a slightly brighter note, the stock managed a modest gain of 0.3% in recent trading to reach EUR 0.1864, though the longer arc tells the harder story: the equity remains roughly 49% below its 52-week high.
A Defense Order Book That Won't Pay the Bills Yet
The central tension facing Nel is not whether its technology sells — it is when the money actually arrives. Through subsidiary Nel Hydrogen US, the company has accumulated orders from Collins Aerospace for PEM electrolyzer stacks used to generate oxygen in life-support systems for U.S., British, and French submarine programs. The total volume of that Collins Aerospace package stands at approximately USD 20 million, assembled from a roughly USD 12 million tranche for U.S. Navy submarine life-support systems, a follow-up order worth about USD 7 million booked just over a week ago, and smaller September commitments.
Media reports indicate delivery of these systems will not begin until 2027 to 2028. That timeline is the crux of the investment case. The fundamental substance is genuine, but it does almost nothing for near-term earnings power. Investors are left to determine which business segments can bridge the gap before these large-scale projects start converting backlog into revenue.
The market's reaction to the latest Collins Aerospace win was telling. Despite the contract announcement, the positive fundamental impulse faded quickly. Shareholders are clearly assigning more weight to immediate pressures than to agreements whose cash impact lies in the distant future.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nel ASA?
The Visibility Question That Will Define the Quarter
How quickly booked projects turn into liquid funds and billable revenue is the single most important variable for how the stock gets valued from here. Hydrogen companies across the board face pressure to prove they can move from letters of intent and preliminary agreements to binding, higher-margin deliveries. At Nel, that proof hinges on the ratio between reported order backlog and actual shipment velocity.
If management can demonstrate during the upcoming presentation that production capacity is fully utilized through the start of deliveries in 2027 and 2028, the groundwork for a durable bottom could be laid. A similar lift would come from showing that comparable standardized orders with healthy margins can be realized faster in other industrial segments. The Collins Aerospace niche itself — with its high barriers to entry and long-term planning certainty — offers a template, provided it can be replicated.
The opposite scenario is equally plausible. Should substantial order intake like the Collins package only hit the top line from 2027 onward, Nel faces an extended stretch in which fixed operating costs and ongoing investments collide with stagnant revenue. The risk: without timely large orders from industrial-scale plant engineering, the cash burn rate could drain existing liquidity reserves faster than hoped.
There is also operational exposure baked into the heavy reliance on long-term government projects. Delays in defense programs or adjustments to military schedules could push the delivery corridor even further out. If the quarterly report reveals that new business outside these specialized orders is stalling, or that customers are postponing final investment decisions, the stock faces another downward revaluation — with the market pricing the long stretch to 2027 and 2028 as a structural financing risk.
What the October 15 Numbers Must Deliver
The direction from here rests on concrete fundamental and technical markers. As long as the EUR 0.1731 support holds, the chance of stabilization remains alive. A breach of that level on disappointing margins or weak order intake would open the door to a slide into untested territory.
Everything now converges on the October 15 release and the investor presentation that follows. Only those detailed figures will show whether the long-term marine pipeline is enough to overcome investor reticence — or whether the timing gap between contract wins and revenue recognition forces a fresh round of stress testing.
