Newmont's Q3 Earnings Beat Overshadowed by CEO Share Sale
Published on 11/06/2026 at 04:12 | Editorial boerse-global.deNewmont closed the session virtually flat, edging up 0.038%, as a firmer bullion market offset scrutiny of insider transactions at the gold miner. The muted move came as gold advanced 1.7% following the US midterm elections, building on a 3.4% jump the previous day, according to Reuters. A softer dollar, retreating US Treasury yields and easing inflation worries on the back of lower crude prices all fed into the metal's climb — a tailwind that lifted gold miners broadly on Monday.
Record Quarterly Profit Backed by Cadia Copper
The company's third-quarter 2026 results, released October 22, put real substance behind the sector's optimism. Newmont booked net income of $2.5 billion, with adjusted net income of $2.3 billion — a record for any third quarter in the company's history. Revenue came in at $6.36 billion. Reuters attributed the performance to stronger gold prices and recovering copper output at Cadia.
Cash generation matched the earnings momentum. Operating cash flow reached $2.8 billion, while free cash flow hit $1.9 billion — a figure that gives investors more to lean on than gold-price speculation alone.
Management also sharpened its full-year 2026 cost guidance. Direct selling costs for gold are now projected at $925 per ounce, with all-in sustaining costs seen at $1,520 per ounce. The attributable gold production forecast was left unchanged at 5.3 million ounces, and Newmont reiterated that it remains on track to meet its annual targets.

Insider Sales Follow a Pre-Set Script
Attention also fell on executive share dealings. CEO Natascha Viljoen sold 3,882 Newmont shares at $108.04 apiece on Monday, according to media reports. The transaction was executed under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan established on February 23 — a pre-arranged framework that removes discretion from the timing of the sale.
Separately, Peter Toth filed a Form 144 notice with the SEC on Monday signalling an intended sale of 3,000 shares. That filing announced a planned transaction rather than a completed one.
Dividend Declared, Red Chris Decision Looms

Newmont Mining at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Further out, the block-cave expansion at Red Chris awaits a final investment decision. Media reports from October 23 put the project's scope at roughly $4.5 billion, with full sanctioning expected in early 2027.
Execution, Not Headlines, Is the Real Test
For all the noise around insider filings, the decisive yardstick remains whether Newmont converts a supportive gold market into delivered results. The company's ability to hit its full-year guidance — backed by record quarterly profit and nearly $2 billion in free cash flow — carries more weight than isolated share sales conducted under a pre-set plan.
