Nvidia's Reported d-Matrix and Reflection AI Moves Sit Alongside a Confirmed Microsoft Push

Nvidia's reported d-Matrix stake and Reflection AI talks remain unconfirmed, while buyback capacity and Microsoft AI PC work are confirmed.

Nvidia is reportedly lining up a stake in AI chip startup d-Matrix, according to The Information, which cited three people familiar with the matter. The same report stops short of describing a signed deal — it outlines an investment plan, not a completed transaction, so no financial contribution to Nvidia can be read off it yet.

That distinction between intent and execution runs through a cluster of recent Nvidia headlines. A separate report from Reuters, drawing on the Financial Times, described early talks about deepening the company's investment in Reflection AI or acquiring it outright. One option floated was an acqui-hire. Reuters said it could not independently verify the account.

For shareholders, the gap matters. A larger stake is not the same as a buyout, and a talent-driven acquisition is not the same as a fully agreed takeover. Because the discussions are at an early stage, there is no solid basis for sizing the financial consequences — and no grounds to credit Nvidia with extra revenue from any of the options on the table.

What Is Actually Confirmed

The Microsoft relationship sits on firmer ground. On Wednesday, the two companies laid out joint work on hardware and software for AI agents running on Windows PCs. That is a collaboration the companies themselves have described, rather than a media account of a possible deal.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nvidia?

Nvidia also announced on Thursday $1 billion in commitments over five years to support US science, spanning quantum computing, healthcare and energy security. Those pledges, too, are separate from any potential equity investment.

The buyback picture provides the financial backdrop. Back on 28 September, Nvidia authorized an additional $150 billion in share repurchases, lifting the total remaining approved amount to $235 billion. Authorization, however, is not the same as executed buybacks.

OpenAI's Revenue Signal Ripples Through the Sector

How touchy sentiment around AI revenue has become was on display Thursday, when media reports put OpenAI's annualized revenue at roughly $50 billion — down from the $68 billion that had previously been signaled. The report was cited as a trigger for a selloff across the AI sector that also weighed on Nvidia.

Those figures belong to OpenAI, not to Nvidia's reported sales. They still matter for how the stock is read: Friday's coverage described cooler enthusiasm for AI investments following the revenue news. The closing price of EUR 204.80 reflects Friday's market level, not the financial impact of any Reflection AI deal.

Nvidia at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Set against that, Nvidia's confirmed research commitments stand next to unconfirmed transaction talks. The announced research programs are concrete; the possible Reflection AI steps remain options. Neither justifies treating revenue hopes as booked business results.

For investors, the takeaway is a clear hierarchy: buyback capacity has been authorized, a Microsoft collaboration has been described, and a d-Matrix investment has so far only been reported. What will matter for valuing it are confirmed terms and an actual closing — not the stated intention to take a stake.
