Nvidia Settles Crypto Disclosure Suit as Its Order Book Outruns Its Delivery Capacity

Nvidia has reached a settlement with shareholders who accused the chipmaker of understating how heavily its fortunes were tied to the volatile cryptocurrency market, according to media reports. Investors notified a federal judge in California of the agreement on Wednesday.

The dispute centered on disclosure rather than demand. Shareholders argued the company failed to make sufficiently transparent the significance of crypto mining to its business — an allegation that has not been tested in court. The settlement itself neither confirms nor refutes the claimed lapses, leaving the agreement, not a judicial ruling, as the news.

A $35 Billion Signal That Isn't Revenue

Far from the courtroom, the operating side of the business is posing a different kind of risk question: how much of the demand Nvidia can actually serve. Reuters reported Tuesday that ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent placed orders for more than 3 million RTX PRO 5500 graphics cards, with a combined value put above $35 billion.

Those bookings are a concrete demand signal, but they are not shipped product or booked revenue. Orders from Chinese customers topped 6 million cards in total, according to the Reuters report, and Nvidia could not guarantee it would fill the demand in full. For investors, the strength of the order book and the uncertainty over fulfillment belong in the same conversation.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nvidia?

AI-RAN Call Marks a Commercial First

On the technology front, Nvidia disclosed Wednesday that T-Mobile, working with Nvidia and Nokia, completed what the companies describe as the world's first AI-RAN call on a commercial network. Unlike a plain product launch, the announcement covers a finished deployment in a live commercial setting — a tangible use of Nvidia technology beyond conventional AI compute provisioning.

BT, Deutsche Telekom and Elisa, meanwhile, announced tests or pilot projects that will run Nokia software on Nvidia's Aerial RAN Computer. Those efforts represent the next stage of trialing, not widespread operation, and should be kept distinct from the completed call.

Processor Switch, Berlin Agreement

Additional applications are taking shape elsewhere. Reuters reported Monday that AI cloud startup Modal intends to use Nvidia's Vera processor for its operations, having previously relied on chips from Intel and AMD. The significance lies in the planned switch of silicon supplier for a specific workload, not merely in added compute capacity.

The same day, Nvidia and the German government agreed to cooperate on models for "physical AI" and industrial AI deployment. According to Nvidia, smaller and midsize companies as well as research institutions are to gain access to the models.

Financing Is the Separate Ledger

AI stocks came under pressure on Thursday as worries about borrowing costs for data centers and chip purchases weighed on the sector, with rising oil prices adding to the strain, according to AP. Doubts also surfaced over whether valuations had run ahead of business fundamentals.

None of that is resolved by the shareholder settlement, and bumper order volumes do not erase possible supply limits. Three threads therefore need to be kept apart: litigation over past disclosure, demand for Nvidia products, and the economics of financing the AI build-out. The latest headlines touch all three — but only the first is now settled.
