The humble meeting room table is getting a major upgrade. When Japanese manufacturer Kokuyo rolled out its new "Viena2" conference table at the end of July, the company wasn't just refreshing a product line — it was responding to a fundamental shift in how office spaces are planned and used.

The Viena2, which succeeds the established "VIENA" series, starts at 90,500 yen (net) and arrives at a moment when employers are rethinking everything from cable management to employee health. Five different tabletop shapes are available, each in either a folding or fixed configuration, with widths ranging from 750 mm to 2,100 mm. The low-profile leg design offers multiple options, and every unit comes standard with a wiring box — a nod to the reality that modern meeting rooms are dense with laptops, monitors and conferencing gear.

For those who need more orderly power and data routing, the manufacturer offers supplementary cable management add-ons. Older models in the series, such as the MT-V77LE6AMAW-E, are still circulating in retail channels at prices around 33,580 yen.

Beyond the Table: Storage, Desks and Lighting

Kokuyo's launch is part of a broader wave of office product introductions aimed at making workplaces more adaptable. German supplier ofinto is offering an aluminium office cabinet priced at 229 euros including VAT, featuring three centrally lockable drawers and four castors with brakes. The unit is rated for a maximum load of 100 kg.

Height-adjustable workstations are also evolving. Ergotopia has added the "Desktopia Draw," a whiteboard-equipped sit-stand desk, to its lineup. The company's desk solutions span from 399 euros for the "Desktopia One" to 649 euros for the "Desktopia Pro X." Specialised lighting is getting in on the act too: the "Conni" LED pendant lamp includes an integrated shelf capable of holding up to 5 kg.

Conferencing Hardware and Infrastructure Catch Up

A meeting table is only as useful as the technology around it. Dell entered the fray in mid-August with the "Pro P43 4K Huddle Conference Monitor," a 43-inch display priced at roughly 1,150 US dollars. The screen packs an 8-megapixel Sony webcam and four beamforming microphones, positioning it as a plug-and-play solution for small group sessions.

Behind the walls, infrastructure components are being refreshed as well. RS Components began stocking a self-extinguishing cable duct from the Betaduct series in mid-August, sold at 5,575.716 RMB per pack of 12. Later in the month, an nVent HOFFMAN base for electrical enclosures becomes available at 533.72 RMB (net).

The Health Imperative Driving Design Choices

The push for ergonomic furniture is backed by sobering statistics. In Mexico, 75% of employed people report suffering from stress, and 80% lead sedentary lifestyles — figures that prompted the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes to launch the second phase of an active-breaks programme in August, aimed at countering the effects of prolonged sitting.

Technology is being enlisted to tackle the same problem. The "z6" AI health office system, released in May, uses vision-based measurement to automatically adjust desk height, screen position and lighting conditions. Pricing for the system ranges from 4,999 yuan for the base version to 8,999 yuan for the flagship model.
