OHB Charts a Wider Orbital Footprint as Investors Await November's Nine-Month Scorecard

OHB SE shares slip 3.5% to EUR 162.20 but stay up about 39% this year, as Eaglet-II reaches 24 satellites and ESA picks OHB for station studies.

A 3.5% slide to EUR 162.20 on Wednesday did little to dent the broader momentum in OHB SE shares, which remain up roughly 39% since the start of the year. No company-specific trigger was behind the midweek retreat, and nothing from the Bremen headquarters accompanied the move. The stock has been trading in a higher orbit for months, and the pullback looks more like routine profit-taking than a verdict on the business.

That business has been busy on several fronts. Over the past few days OHB logged progress across active missions and secured a foothold in future European space infrastructure. Media reports indicate the European Space Agency selected consortia led by OHB and Airbus Defence and Space to carry out parallel feasibility studies for a possible European space station in low Earth orbit. The awards are preliminary only — no decision has been made to actually build such a station.

A 24-Satellite Constellation Takes Shape

On the Earth-observation side, subsidiary OHB Italia wrapped up the Eaglet-II constellation for Italy's IRIDE program. With the final eight satellites transported into orbit, the network now numbers 24 units. OHB Italia is responsible not only for development and construction but also for ongoing operations of the constellation.

Additional payload reached orbit through Luxembourg-based subsidiary LuxSpace. The small satellite ATHENE-1, developed jointly with the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, flew aboard a Falcon 9 as part of the Transporter-18 mission and was placed into low Earth orbit as planned. It serves as a platform for 22 experiments in communications and data processing.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?

Leadership Change at Rocket Factory Augsburg

Personnel moves at group level drew attention earlier in the week. The supervisory board of Rocket Factory Augsburg, an OHB subsidiary, appointed Alexander Dahm as its new chief executive on Monday. Dahm succeeds Prof. Dr. Indulis Kalnins and takes charge of further development steps and the targeted maiden flight of the RFA ONE launch vehicle. There is no connection between the leadership change in Augsburg and the recent share-price losses at the parent company.

Ownership Steady, Index Presence Higher

The balance of power among shareholders remains unchanged. The Fuchs family continues to hold the majority stake in the Bremen space group. Financial investor KKR operates as a minority shareholder through Orchid Lux HoldCo S.à r.l. During the June capital increase, KKR acted as a seller of existing shares and, according to the half-year report dated August 6, reduced its holding to roughly 20%.

September brought greater index visibility: STOXX added OHB SE to the TecDAX, where the space group replaced IT services provider CANCOM. Management used the occasion to reaffirm its targets for the current financial year — a consolidated total output of around EUR 1.4 billion and an adjusted EBITDA margin of between 10.5% and 11.0%.

November 12 Looms Large

The next real test for the fundamental story arrives on November 12, when OHB publishes results for the first nine months and presents its operational development on a conference call for the capital market. For investors, the central question is how the recent project wins — from the completed Eaglet-II fleet to the ATHENE-1 launch and the ESA feasibility studies — translate into the numbers.
