OHB's Orbital Wins Pile Up While the Market Waits for the Balance Sheet to Catch Up

OHB SE is doing what space companies are supposed to do: launching things, completing constellations, and signing defense partnerships. What it is not doing — at least not yet — is convincing equity investors that any of this translates into earnings power. That gap between industrial execution and stock market reception sits at the center of the company's current story.
The most recent trading session offered a small illustration. Shares of the Bremen-based group closed at EUR 157.80 on Thursday, a decline of 2.0 percent, with no company-specific news or sector-wide trigger to explain the move. Even after that soft session, the stock remains up 35 percent since the start of the year.
Eaglet-II Reaches Full Strength
On the operational front, OHB Italia wrapped up the Eaglet-II constellation for Italy's IRIDE Earth observation program. The European Space Agency confirmed that the network reached its planned final configuration following the successful launch of the last batch of satellites on October 1. All told, the low-Earth-orbit observation grid now comprises 24 satellites.
A second launch followed shortly afterward from Vandenberg Space Force Base in the United States, carried out under the Transporter-18 mission. The payload was the ATHENE-1 demonstrator, developed by OHB subsidiary LuxSpace together with the University of the Bundeswehr Munich. The small satellite is hosting demanding scientific experiments in low Earth orbit.
New Leadership for the Rocket Business
Further down the corporate structure, Rocket Factory Augsburg reshuffled its top management. The supervisory board appointed Alexander Dahm as the new chief executive on Monday. He succeeds Prof. Dr. Indulis Kalnins and takes charge of advancing the program as well as the upcoming maiden flight of the RFA ONE launch vehicle.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?
The leadership change lands at a delicate moment for Europe's launch ambitions, where domestic small-satellite capability has taken on growing strategic weight.
Saab Deal Adds a Defense Dimension
OHB Sweden, another subsidiary, signed a letter of intent roughly two weeks ago with Swedish defense contractor Saab. The two partners agreed to deepen cooperation on the provision and further development of space-based defense capabilities.
The arrangement fits a broader pattern. European security architecture is demanding reliable space-based reconnaissance, and OHB has been positioning itself in precisely those niches, expanding existing competencies beyond classic institutional research programs.
Ownership Stays Predictable
On the shareholder side, the founding Fuchs family retains both a majority stake and operational leadership. Financial investor KKR has been on board since 2023 as a minority holder through the investment vehicle Orchid Lux HoldCo S.à r.l. At the time of its entry, KKR's stake stood at roughly 28.6 percent. During a capital increase in June, the investor sold existing shares and trimmed its holding to around 20 percent, according to the half-year report dated August 6, 2026.
That setup gives OHB strategic predictability in day-to-day operations. Management can pursue long-term space programs without being subject to the short-term return demands of a controlling financial investor — a foundation that matters for industrial partnerships and security-relevant large-scale contracts at the European level.
A Valuation Gap That Needs Closing
The market's caution is not hard to understand. Technical success in orbit does not automatically produce rising profitability on the ground. Space programs tie up substantial capital and carry operational project risks. Investors are right to ask for evidence that a technological edge shows up in dependable profits and robust cash flows.
At a current price of EUR 160.40, the shares have gained 37 percent since the beginning of the year, yet they trade well below their 200-day moving average of EUR 266.00. The market has been slow to reward the progress.
Answers are due soon. On November 12, 2026, the group publishes its figures for the first nine months of the year. The strategic positioning in Europe's space and security sector tilts the odds in OHB's favor — but the interim report still has to demonstrate that operational momentum is arriving in the accounts.
