OMV Analysts Lift Targets Without Budging on Ratings as Refining Outlook Tightens
Published on 11/08/2026 at 18:11 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo European banks have nudged their price targets for OMV higher this week, yet neither was willing to shift its underlying view of the Austrian energy group. BNP Paribas raised its target to EUR 70 from EUR 64 on Wednesday while keeping a "Neutral" rating, according to media reports. A day earlier, HSBC had moved its own target to EUR 66 from EUR 63, maintaining a "Reduce" stance. In both cases, the higher numbers came attached to unchanged recommendations — a signal that the analysts see more value in the shares without turning outright bullish.
The stock itself slipped 0.7% on Friday, closing at EUR 71.60.
A Quarter That Beat on Nearly Every Line
The backdrop to those revisions is a third-quarter 2026 report published roughly two weeks ago that showed sharp gains across OMV's key metrics. Clean CCS operating profit before special items came in at EUR 2.12 billion, up 68% year on year. Clean CCS net income attributable to shareholders reached EUR 1.15 billion, a 94% jump, while operating cash flow totalled EUR 2.2 billion.
Management credited a favourable energy market environment and stronger refining margins for the performance. In the fuels business, high utilisation rates and a favourable product mix added further support.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Omv?
Refining margins during the quarter climbed to USD 37.50 per barrel. The chemicals division, by contrast, moved in the opposite direction: its operating result fell to EUR 63 million.
Guidance Raised, With an Eye on Tight Inventories
Alongside those results, OMV lifted its full-year assumptions for both crude prices and refining spreads. The company now expects Brent to average above USD 95/bbl and sees the European refining reference margin at around USD 25/bbl. No guidance for 2027 has been issued yet.
CEO Emma Delaney expects low fuel inventories to keep lending support to already tight refining markets — an assessment that underpins the upgraded margin forecast. That revision lands on a segment that was already the standout performer in the reported quarter.
Neptun Deep Nears Completion as Vienna Recycling Decision Lingers
Further out, the Black Sea gas project Neptun Deep is now 89% complete, according to Delaney. At full plateau production, OMV anticipates an annual contribution of roughly EUR 500 million to clean CCS operating profit.
Omv at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Closer to home, a final investment decision is still pending on "Projekt Schleie," a downstream initiative in Vienna. The scheme envisions a plant for mechanical and chemical recycling of non-hazardous plastic waste, with environmental impact assessment documents citing a planned processing capacity of up to 200,000 tonnes per year.
Investors will get their next look at the numbers on 4 February 2027, when OMV is scheduled to report fourth-quarter 2026 results.
