Palantir's Record Close Masks a Widening Transatlantic Rift

Palantir shares finished Friday's European session at EUR 186.56, a gain of 5.3%, landing just fractions below the all-time peak of EUR 186.64. The advance capped a week in which two of Wall Street's most closely watched houses abandoned their caution on the stock within 48 hours of each other.
Goldman Sachs upgraded Palantir from Neutral to Buy on Thursday, attaching a $230 price target. Analyst Gabriela Borges pointed to a fresh growth phase she expects to be powered by sovereign AI, bespoke applications and vertical integration into specific industries. Barclays followed on Friday, initiating coverage straight at Overweight with a $265 target. Anthony Valentini's call provided the immediate fuel for the latest leg higher.
The pair of endorsements amounts to more than routine rating housekeeping. It signals a broader recalibration on Wall Street, away from doubts about the company's valuation premium and toward the view that Palantir occupies a structural exception within the software sector.
From Data Analyst to Infrastructure Play
What is driving that conviction is a deliberate push down the technology stack. On October 1, Palantir announced a partnership with Armada to build modular data centers for sovereign AI infrastructure, with Armada acting as a certified partner. The arrangement targets a market that is becoming a dominant concern for governments and large corporations worldwide: running sensitive models under national or regional data control.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Palantir?
Pairing security requirements and modular hardware with a sophisticated software platform creates formidable switching costs. Palantir is also moving quickly on the product side. On Tuesday it unlocked the Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5 models inside its Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) for regional access in the United Kingdom via AWS Bedrock, while making enterprise ontology interfaces generally available in its development environment. The company is responding nimbly to local rules and folding the newest model generations into its stack without friction.
That agility rests on a business that deliberately avoids building its own foundation models. Chief Technology Officer Shyam Sankar has framed the strategy plainly: Palantir supplies the guardrails and control mechanisms for putting AI to work, not the underlying models themselves.
A US Franchise That Keeps Compounding
The operational base in the United States looks unshakeable on paper. Revenue climbed 93% to $1.935 billion in the second quarter of 2026, with sales to US government agencies up 90%. Framework agreements underpin the relationship with the American security apparatus, including a ten-year contract with the US Army worth up to $10 billion and the ShipOS marine program valued at as much as $448 million. Management is targeting full-year 2026 revenue of up to $8.158 billion.
Europe Pushes Back
Across the Atlantic, the political mood is hardening in the opposite direction. The very phrase Palantir uses to describe its own mission — national technology sovereignty — is increasingly being turned against US vendors on the continent.
France's domestic intelligence service is preparing to part ways with Palantir's analytical tools and intends to switch to ChapsVision, a homegrown software provider. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu justified the move explicitly as an effort to reduce strategic dependence on foreign technology. The protectionist turn is not a French peculiarity. Germany's military is reportedly preparing to forgo software from the US group, while the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has opted for ChapsVision. Even in the United Kingdom, where Palantir ranks behind only Microsoft among AI suppliers to the public sector, resistance is mounting: a multimillion-pound contract for London's police force was blocked, and existing healthcare arrangements are under review.
A Valuation That Leaves Little Room
For shareholders, the divergence presents a strategic dilemma. The home market and US defense budgets offer enormous earnings power, yet a digital demarcation line threatens to shrink the addressable market outside America faster than many valuation models currently reflect. Near record levels, the stock carries short-term pullback risk should quarterly results show even minimal softness. As long as Palantir keeps advancing partnerships and platform integrations at its present pace, the opportunity side of the ledger still commands the argument — but the political vulnerability of the model grows with every new high.
