Partners Group co-founder Fredy Gantner has spent recent weeks crisscrossing three financial capitals, holding roughly 40 meetings with large international investors in New York, London and Zurich. The outreach, first reported by Swiss business magazine Bilanz, amounts to a direct response to the unease that has settled over the firm's shareholder base after a bruising stretch for the stock.

The founding trio is presenting a united front. Gantner and his two fellow co-founders each continue to hold more than 5% of the company's shares, according to the report. That show of commitment has done little to steady the share price, which closed the most recent session at EUR 639.40 — a year-to-date decline of 40%. The stock is currently trading 2.6% above its 52-week low.

A flagship fund split in two

At the heart of the firm's restructuring efforts is the Global Value SICAV, an evergreen vehicle with a reported volume of EUR 6.6 billion. Roughly two weeks ago, Partners Group proposed dividing the fund into an umbrella structure containing two specialized sub-portfolios. One sleeve would remain focused on long-term capital appreciation, reinvesting gains as it goes. The second would be a distributing portfolio, channeling proceeds from asset sales back to investors. The plan, which media reports say is designed to give shareholders greater flexibility, still requires explicit approval from the fund's investors. Since the proposal surfaced, the share price has slipped 1.2%.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Partners Group?

The pressure extends beyond that single vehicle. Bloomberg has reported elevated redemption requests across older fund portfolios, adding to the liquidity strain the asset manager is working to manage.

London trust opts for liquidation

For one vehicle, restructuring is no longer on the table. Partners Group Private Equity Limited, the London-listed trust managed by the firm, held a vote just over a week ago in which 74.1% of shares backed a liquidity option — effectively killing the previously planned reorganization of the vehicle. At an extraordinary general meeting that followed, 99.89% of votes cast endorsed the disposal of the entire portfolio. The company confirmed that the orderly sell-down began the moment the meeting closed. For holders, the decision means locked-up capital will be released gradually through sales of the underlying holdings.

Jefferies cuts estimates

Sell-side sentiment has cooled in tandem with the operational shifts. About two weeks ago, Jefferies lowered its price target on Partners Group from CHF 710 to CHF 605 while keeping a "Hold" rating on the stock. The analysts trimmed their earnings-per-share forecasts by 10% for 2026 and 11% for 2027, pointing to strains in the evergreen fund range and a slower-than-expected recovery in assets under management.

Private credit as the next growth lever

With its legacy structures in flux, Partners Group is pushing to open new sources of revenue. The firm has launched a global multi-sector private credit income strategy, structured as an open-ended evergreen vehicle. The offering is aimed at both institutional investors and private wealth clients worldwide, giving them access to private-market credit assets. It targets returns in the high single-digit to low double-digit percentage range, generated primarily through recurring income.
