Partners Group Rebuts Short-Seller Case as SICAV Restructuring Nears Shareholder Verdict

Partners Group's recent share-price weakness owes as much to nerves as to numbers, according to ZKB analyst Daniel Regli, who used an interview published yesterday to push back against the overvaluation claims laid out in the Grizzly short-seller report. Regli pointed to the sour mood surrounding private capital investments and concerns about redemptions from evergreen funds as forces weighing on the stock — and dismissed the report's central allegation as unfounded.

His rebuttal carries a caveat that investors should keep in view: it is one analyst's opinion, not an independent audit of every valuation across the portfolio. And even if the overvaluation case falls flat, that does not settle the separate question of how the firm handles redemption requests from its evergreen vehicles. A more favorable read on holdings does not, by itself, dissolve doubts about fund structures.

Friday's trading offered little in the way of a verdict either. The stock added 1.6%, but no specific news catalyst for the gain has been confirmed, so the move cannot be read as the market's final word on the disputed issues.

A Concrete Test in the Global Value SICAV

Far more tangible is the restructuring taking shape at the Global Value SICAV. Media reports on Monday described the transfer of stakes in four buyout funds — drawn from the 2016 to 2018 vintages — into a new Luxembourg vehicle. The transfers took place ahead of the planned shareholder ballot on splitting the fund, making them a concrete preparatory step that nonetheless leaves the outcome of the vote open.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Partners Group?

That vote is scheduled for the week starting November 9. Partners Group has also flagged fee relief in connection with the overhaul, measures that touch fund terms and are distinct from Regli's take on the overvaluation allegations.

The concessions are not uniform across share classes. Holders of the distributing sub-fund are in line for at least 25 basis points less over three years, according to media reports — a stated minimum with a defined duration. The accumulating sub-fund is treated differently: there the proposal sets a possible maximum reduction of up to 75 basis points through January 1, 2030, rather than the same guaranteed floor. Both the planned umbrella structure and the fee cuts require shareholder approval.

Insiders Put Up Nearly CHF 39 Million

A separate signal comes from within the firm. Board and management members have bought almost CHF 39 million of stock since the beginning of September, according to media reports — evidence of personal financial commitment from the leadership, though no substitute for scrutiny of the criticisms themselves.

Meanwhile, the firm's credit franchise continues to draw money. The second rated feeder of the year raised USD 510 million for the private-credit evergreen strategy, bringing total capital gathered through such vehicles in 2026 to USD 875 million. That inflow is complete and describes one specific funding channel, not a trend across the whole business — and it neither replaces nor pre-empts the SICAV decision that shareholders have yet to make.

Taken together, the picture is one of distinct threads rather than a single narrative: an analyst disputing the valuation case, a structural decision pending at the Global Value SICAV, fresh capital banked in private credit, and management buying its own shares. The next scheduled checkpoint is the vote on the fund split — not the interpretation of a single upbeat session.
