Partners Group is opening two fresh channels for future business at once — a non-binding infrastructure pact in the Gulf and a tokenised route to one of its funds — even as fee concessions and a reshuffled private equity desk complicate the growth story. Neither new avenue yet amounts to committed capital, and that distinction sits at the heart of how investors should read the Swiss firm's latest announcements.

Media reports indicate Partners Group and the Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore private participation in infrastructure and real estate projects in the emirate, with construction, industry and technology among the sectors named. On a separate track, Soneium and Asseto said yesterday they will give eligible users access to a Partners Group-managed royalties fund through ipUSD and IP Vault. That fund is valued at USD 549 million — a figure describing the existing portfolio, not money raised through the newly announced offering.

Access Is Not the Same as Demand

The size of an underlying fund does not substitute for fresh inflows, and an announced distribution channel does not equal a completed sales launch or a defined volume of additional investment. What matters is whether eligible users actually embrace the route. A tie-in to an existing vehicle gives the announcement a concrete investment anchor, but it leaves the question of future capital raising unanswered.

The Abu Dhabi agreement carries the same caveat. A memorandum to examine possible participations cannot be weighed like a signed mandate or a closed transaction. The breadth of sectors listed matters less than progress on individual projects. For a more favourable assessment, Partners Group would need to show that its initiatives convert into actual business.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Partners Group?

Insurer Commitments Show the Machinery Works

There is a counterweight to a purely expectation-driven reading. The second rated feeder for the private credit evergreen strategy, completed just over a week ago, drew USD 510 million from US insurance companies. Capital raised through such vehicles reached USD 875 million in total. That close proves demand for this particular structure and investor group, though it cannot be mapped directly onto the Soneium and Asseto offering.

The two developments — the credit fundraising and the Gulf talks — concern different ventures and should not be strung together into a secured growth chain. Taken side by side, they illustrate the twin halves of the task: winning capital and sourcing suitable places to deploy it.

Velvet Care Offers Hard Evidence

Operational progress at existing holdings provides another reference point. On 21 October, Partners Group reported expansion at Velvet Care: since the 2024 acquisition, revenue has risen by more than 30% and EBITDA by over 50%. The company is building a new plant in Poland that will lift total capacity by roughly a third once fully operational, and it is targeting a doubling of revenue by the end of 2028, supported by a sales platform for Germany.

That track record carries more weight for investors than the mere announcement of further investment intentions. The optimistic case therefore extends beyond new agreements to the ability to keep developing portfolio companies.

Fee Relief Cuts Both Ways

Set against the growth potential are concrete concessions. Bloomberg reported on 20 October that administrative fees on the Global Value SICAV will fall by at least 25 basis points for three years for investors in the distributing sub-fund, which has a volume of EUR 6.6 billion. For the accumulating sub-fund, the reported reduction runs to as much as 75 basis points and applies until 1 January 2030.

Cheaper terms can make an offering more attractive, but they are not in themselves evidence of growth. If Partners Group concedes on fees, the economic effect of new business may be smaller than hoped, and the fee cut alone does not reveal how strongly individual measures will hit results.

Buyout Desk Reshuffled

Staffing has shifted as well. Bloomberg reported on 16 October that dozens of positions worldwide were cut or relocated in the private equity division, with some employees leaving the firm and others moved into infrastructure and royalties, among other areas. Such changes can support a strategic refocus, yet on their own they prove neither higher earnings nor a successful execution of the new priorities.

The Next Catalysts

A shareholder vote on a split of the Global Value SICAV fund has been announced for the week starting 9 November. The decision is still pending, concerns an existing offering and is distinct from the new royalties fund access.

For now, a positive growth scenario remains plausible as long as Partners Group keeps raising capital and demonstrates operational progress at its holdings. A binding project agreement or an executed investment emerging from the Abu Dhabi talks would substantially strengthen what is currently an uncommitted outlook. Should the infrastructure discussions stay at the exploration stage, they add little to the economic valuation — and further fee concessions could make any additional business less valuable than hoped. Investors face a choice between early conviction and waiting for delivery; only completed transactions will show whether durable growth follows.
