Partners Group is pressing ahead with a broad overhaul of its product shelf, pairing a fresh push into private credit with a pair of structural changes to existing vehicles. The Swiss asset manager unveiled a global multi-sector private credit income strategy on Friday, an open-ended evergreen vehicle aimed at both institutional investors and private wealth clients.

The strategy targets total returns in the high single-digit to low double-digit percentage range, with the bulk of that coming from running income rather than capital appreciation. To get there, Partners Group plans allocations across senior direct lending, fund financing and liquid loans, alongside credit secondaries, royalties and opportunistic credit positions.

The launch lands as demand for steady payout streams from private credit continues to build, particularly among wealthy individuals drawn to the asset class in the current rate environment. Yet the new vehicle arrives against a difficult backdrop for alternative managers, and Partners Group's own shares are feeling the strain.

Shares Hug the Bottom of the Range

In pre-market trading the stock was quoted at EUR 642.00, sitting just above its 52-week low of EUR 623.00. The picture for the year to date is starker still: the shares have shed 40 percent since January. Friday's session offered a brief respite, with the stock closing at EUR 640.80 for a gain of 1.9 percent on the day.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Partners Group?

The company is responding to investor caution with a steady stream of new offerings, hoping that recurring income streams will help rebuild confidence.

Splitting the Flagship

That effort runs alongside structural surgery on the existing line-up. Roughly two weeks ago, Partners Group proposed dividing its Global Value SICAV, which carries a net asset value of EUR 6.6 billion, into an umbrella structure with two sub-portfolios. Since that announcement, the stock has slipped 0.8 percent.

One sleeve will stay focused on long-term capital growth, while the other is designed to pool and pass on proceeds from portfolio realizations to unitholders. The restructuring remains subject to shareholder approval. Peel Hunt analyst Markuz Jaffe noted on Tuesday that introducing a distributing sub-fund could color how investors perceive liquidity needs across the firm's funds.

London Trust Heads for the Exit

A more sweeping change is under way at Partners Group Private Equity Limited, the closed-ended UK investment trust. Shareholders have backed a full, orderly wind-down of its investment portfolio. At an extraordinary general meeting, 99.9 percent of votes cast supported the liquidation, following an earlier poll in which 74.12 percent of capital opted for an exit.

As Reuters reported, the process concerns only the closed-ended British trust and not the listed parent company. Distributions of realization proceeds are expected to flow back to shareholders on a semi-annual basis starting March 31, 2027. With that decision, the vehicle shifts its focus from new investments to returning capital to investors in stages, as management begins the orderly disposal of existing assets.

How reliably demand for regular distributions holds up against the liquidity demands across the wider fund range will be the test investors watch most closely.
