PFISTERER's H1 Numbers Tell a Tale of Two Trajectories — Record Earnings, Cooling Demand

The arithmetic is unassailable, yet the market's verdict has been anything but forgiving. PFISTERER's first-half 2026 results, published on Wednesday, delivered the strongest profit growth in the company's recent history — and still the shares shed roughly 9 percent in a single session, sliding to around EUR 71 before staging a modest recovery.
The disconnect between the financials and the share price speaks to a more nuanced story than the headline figures alone suggest.
The Numbers That Should Have Cheered Investors
Revenue for the first six months climbed 20.2 percent to EUR 256.7 million, while adjusted EBITDA rose 33 percent to EUR 52.4 million, lifting the margin from 18.5 percent to 20.4 percent. Net profit jumped 75.9 percent to EUR 38.3 million.
The second quarter was particularly striking. The cable accessory specialist posted record quarterly sales of EUR 129.8 million, up from EUR 113.4 million a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA advanced from EUR 18.5 million to EUR 24.7 million, and earnings per share came in at EUR 1.11 — comfortably ahead of the EUR 0.86 analysts had penciled in. Quarterly net profit nearly doubled to EUR 19.8 million.
Management pointed to Europe as the primary engine. Regional revenue in Europe and Africa expanded from EUR 115.8 million to EUR 140.3 million, with EBITDA in that region climbing from EUR 18.7 million to EUR 28.5 million. CEO spokesman Johannes Linden credited the region for making "the largest contribution to the group's revenue and earnings development."

Where the Market Found Cause for Caution
The hesitation on the trading floor centers on the order book's forward momentum. Incoming orders for the half came in at EUR 263.0 million, down from EUR 290.2 million in the prior-year period — a normalization management attributes to exceptionally strong prior quarters. The book-to-bill ratio nevertheless remained above 1, meaning new business still outpaced recognized revenue.
The backlog itself grew to EUR 340.3 million from EUR 312.5 million, providing visibility that extends into 2027. That cushion, however, has not fully assuaged concerns about whether the margin expansion is sustainable or whether the pace of new business can keep up with the elevated earnings base.
The market's reaction was swift and unambiguous. After the Wednesday release, the stock fell to around EUR 71, a drop of roughly 9 percent. By Friday, it had clawed back to EUR 73.20, a 2.0 percent gain on the day, but the weekly loss still stood at about 10 percent. The secondary report puts the week's decline at 11 percent, with the shares changing hands near EUR 73.00. Either way, the stock now sits approximately 36 percent below its 52-week high of EUR 114.60, reached in May.
A Patent, a New Facility, and a Steady Dividend
Beyond the quarterly figures, the company flagged a newly granted patent for pluggable HVDC connection technology, positioning itself for the electrification of power grids. Capacity expansion is also underway: a new HVDC qualification center is being built in Winterbach, with commissioning slated for the first half of 2027, alongside production capacity increases at sites in Germany, the US, and the Czech Republic. The mid-term guidance through 2030 remains unchanged.
Shareholders at the June annual meeting, where 85 percent of share capital was represented, approved a dividend of EUR 0.85 per share and the conversion to registered shares. Earlier, in May, board members Johannes Linden and Dr. Konstantin Kurfiss each subscribed to 10,925 shares at EUR 103.98 as part of a contribution in kind — a show of confidence at a price level well above today's trading range.
The picture that emerges is one of operational strength colliding with forward-looking skepticism. The record earnings and comfortable backlog provide a foundation, but the softening order intake and the market's muted response suggest investors are weighing whether the growth trajectory can sustain its momentum — or whether the best of this cycle is already priced in.
