Plug Power's Cash Burn Narrows, but November's Calendar and a Chilly Tech Tape Hold the Stock Hostage
Published on 10/19/2026 at 03:40 | Editorial boerse-global.dePlug Power shares fell 6.3% on Friday to close at EUR 1.24, a slide that had nothing to do with the hydrogen specialist itself. A broad sell-off swept the US technology sector as investors fretted over the sustainability of heavy spending on artificial intelligence, according to AP. With no company-specific news to explain the drop, the stock's retreat left it hovering close to its 52-week low of EUR 1.21.
That market backdrop matters because the weeks ahead carry real weight for Plug Power. Management is scheduled to present detailed third-quarter 2026 results on November 9, 2026, in a conference call, with a virtual symposium to follow ten days later on November 19, 2026, where investors are likely to press for clarity on the long-term business direction and the path to profitability.
Preliminary Numbers Point to Modest Growth and a Smaller Cash Drain
Ahead of those dates, Plug Power has offered a preliminary, unaudited snapshot of the third quarter. Revenue is expected to climb more than 10% year over year, and management reaffirmed its full-year 2026 target of roughly 15% to 16% sales growth.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Plug Power?
Just as important for a company still working to prove its model can stand on its own, the net cash burn came in at about $28 million for the quarter. Cash and cash equivalents stood at roughly $134 million at period end, adjusted for restricted cash. Notably, Plug Power raised no fresh money during the quarter — neither through its ATM program nor via any other equity or debt measures. Market watchers see the shrinking cash outflow as a key building block in restoring investor confidence.
A 280-MW Order in Denmark, With Strings Attached
On the operational front, the company closed a supply agreement with Arcadia eFuels roughly three weeks ago covering GenEco electrolyzers with a combined capacity of 280 MW for the ENDOR project in Denmark. The deal also includes a strategic partnership for more than 1 gigawatt of future projects with the same partner. Deliveries, however, will not begin until the project receives formal approval to proceed.
Two Brokers Trim Their Targets
Analysts remain cautious despite the operational wins. Morgan Stanley cut its price target last Wednesday to $1.20 while keeping an "Underweight" rating, citing muted long-term growth expectations and a slower global rollout of hydrogen technology. Susquehanna also lowered its target ahead of the earnings round, taking it down to $1.75 with a neutral stance.
Until the detailed quarterly figures land in November, the share price looks set to stay tethered to the wider sector mood rather than to anything Plug Power reports about its own progress.
