Redcare Pharmacy posts decade-best margins and first international profit, but July weakness and German pharmacy reform uncertainty temper investor optimism.

The numbers tell a story of operational momentum. The share price tells a story of regulatory caution. For Redcare Pharmacy, the gap between the two is now the central question for investors.

The online pharmacy operator closed Tuesday's session at €63.85, a marginal 0.31 percent dip that belies the weeks of elevated volatility preceding it. Just a day earlier, the stock had advanced 3.56 percent to €64.05, riding the release of second-quarter results that showcased the company's strongest profitability in a decade. The whipsawing reflects a market repositioning ahead of what many view as a pivotal moment for the sector: the finalization of Germany's pharmacy reform, expected from the Federal Health Ministry in August 2026.

A Decade-Best Margin and a Historic First

The operational backdrop is genuinely encouraging. Redcare reported second-quarter group revenue of €853 million, a 20 percent year-on-year increase that marks an acceleration from the 18.4 percent growth recorded in the first quarter. Adjusted group EBITDA jumped 63 percent to €29.6 million, pushing the margin to 3.5 percent — the highest level in ten years.

Perhaps more significant is a milestone that had long eluded the company: the international segment turned its first-ever profit. Adjusted EBITDA there reached €1 million, a modest figure in absolute terms but a symbolic breakthrough for a business that has historically weighed on group results.

The engine behind much of this strength remains the German prescription business. Rx revenue surged 58 percent in the quarter, fueled by growing adoption of the CardLink digital prescription process. The active customer base expanded by 0.5 million during the quarter, reaching 14.7 million across seven European markets. For the first half of 2026, group revenue came in at €1.7 billion, up 19 percent, with adjusted EBITDA of €44 million and a margin of 2.6 percent.

Guidance Raised, Expectations Tempered

Buoyed by the first-half performance, management lifted its full-year outlook. The company now targets revenue growth of 15 to 17 percent for 2026, up from a previous range of 13 to 15 percent. Guidance for German Rx sales was set at €680 million to €720 million, implying growth of up to 43 percent. The adjusted EBITDA margin forecast was also refined to 2.5 to 3.0 percent, replacing the earlier "above 2.5 percent" phrasing.

Yet the upgraded guidance comes with a caveat that has given investors pause. Management has signaled that July was "weaker" than expected, with group growth now running below the 20 percent threshold. The third quarter is expected to see a seasonal slowdown, particularly in Germany's non-prescription segment, where growth has slipped under 10 percent. The company attributes the cooling to seasonal effects and a demanding comparison base from prior periods.

The Regulatory Variable

What has captured the market's attention more than any single operational metric is the prospect of regulatory clarity. The pharmacy reform package being finalized in Berlin is viewed as a potential inflection point for online pharmacy platforms. The key provision: a clear separation of operational duties between pharmacies and their logistics partners, with pharmaceutical core responsibilities remaining strictly with the pharmacies themselves.

For pure-play online platforms like Redcare, such a delineation would relieve certain liability concerns and provide a more stable legal framework for electronic prescription processing. Management has confirmed that the reform is expected to deliver long-term legal certainty, and market participants are currently weighing this potential signal as a significant driver for the stock's valuation.

A Stock Between Milestones and Distance

Despite the recent recovery, the share price remains 38.18 percent below its 52-week high of €103.60, reached in August 2025. The journey back has been substantial — the stock has more than doubled from its March 2026 low of €30.06 — but the gap to previous peaks underscores how far sentiment has shifted.

Technical indicators paint a picture of cautious stabilization. The current price sits 3.89 percent above the 50-day moving average of €61.46, while the relative strength index at 47.3 points to neutral momentum. Analysts, for their part, remain constructive: the average twelve-month price target stands at €86, with revenue estimates for 2026 holding steady at approximately €3.41 billion. Their conviction rests on expectations of continued loss reduction and a structurally more stable margin once the regulatory environment in the DACH region firms up.

The August release of the final reform text will likely determine whether those expectations are vindicated. Until then, Redcare's shares remain caught between demonstrable operational strength and the unresolved question of what Berlin will ultimately deliver.
