Renk Completes UK Defence Acquisition, Turning Huddersfield Into Submarine Drive Hub
Published on 11/08/2026 at 10:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deRenk has closed its purchase of David Brown Defence from Stellex Capital Management, a transaction finalised on 2 November once all regulatory clearances came through. The acquired business, now trading as RENK UK Huddersfield, brings roughly 530 employees into the group and will serve as Renk's centre of excellence for submarine propulsion systems.
The deal carries an order book and pipeline together worth more than GBP 700 million, a figure Renk says spans existing contracts plus potential future business across the 2026 to 2030 window. That headline number is broader than the group's reported backlog, since it folds in work not yet booked.
Nine-Month Orders Outpace Sales
Trading momentum through the first nine months of 2026 leaned heavily on new business. Incoming orders reached EUR 1.66 billion, up 33.6% year on year, while the order book stood at EUR 7.6 billion as of 30 September.
Revenue for the period came in at EUR 982.0 million, a gain of 5.8%. Adjusted operating profit rose faster still, with EBIT of EUR 158.8 million marking a 12.7% increase over the comparable stretch.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?
For the full 2026 financial year, Renk is guiding on its continuing operations to around EUR 1.4 billion in revenue and adjusted EBIT of between EUR 240 million and EUR 255 million.
Chief Flags Prime Contractor Risk
Alexander Sagel, the group's chief executive, pointed to a potential bottleneck outside Renk's own walls. Delays at prime contractors could slow the conversion of backlog into revenue, he cautioned, according to Reuters. Inside the company, he sees no constraints on turning orders into production and delivery.
Engineering work is advancing in parallel. On 30 October Renk reported progress on its HSWL-406 transmission, destined for future Italian and European main battle tank programmes, including Italy's NMBT effort.
