Renk trades near EUR 42.20 as BlackRock and Wellington disclose stakes, while Metzler sees a Q3 rebound with a EUR 75 price target.

Two of the world's largest asset managers have been recalibrating their exposure to Renk, even as the German defense supplier's stock struggles to find footing. Wellington Management Group disclosed a 5.003636% voting stake as of September 1, following a transaction dated August 26, nudging just past the 5% reporting threshold. BlackRock, meanwhile, reported a 4.06% holding as of August 28. Both filings fall under Germany's WpHG disclosure rules, which capture technical threshold crossings without revealing whether they reflect deliberate accumulation or routine fund flows.

The timing is notable. Renk closed Friday at EUR 42.20, leaving it just 4.4% above its 52-week low and down 16% over the past month. The equity has shed roughly 40% of its value across a year, and sits about 53% below its 52-week high of EUR 90.20, reached in early October. That divergence—heavy institutional presence against a sliding share price—has become the defining tension around the stock.

Metzler Makes the Bull Case

Bankhaus Metzler has stepped forward with a strikingly upbeat view. Analyst Alexander Neuberger, after direct contact with the company, expects the defense supplier to regain momentum in the third quarter as anticipated. His price target stands at EUR 75, far above current levels.

Neuberger's argument rests on the shape of Renk's expansion through 2030. In his reading, the second quarter of 2026 likely marked the trough of that trajectory. Because most revenue derives from orders placed years earlier, the business is largely predictable for 2027. Growth drivers through the end of the decade include expanded framework agreements, a new tracked-vehicle platform, and a larger role for the service business within the group's portfolio.

That medium-term picture contrasts sharply with recent trading. Earlier this month the stock briefly recovered ground, climbing as much as 2.8% on the MDAX to EUR 43.76, before the rebound faded—evidence that investors remain wary until price stability returns.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

Fundamentals Tell a Different Story

The operating numbers lend weight to the optimistic camp. In the first half of 2026, Renk lifted adjusted EBIT by 10.1% to EUR 98.2 million, with the margin improving 100 basis points to 15.4%. Management reaffirmed its full-year guidance in August: revenue above EUR 1.5 billion and adjusted EBIT of EUR 255 million to EUR 285 million for 2026.

Order intake reinforces the case. Renk booked EUR 582.3 million in the first quarter—its highest ever for a first quarter—while the total order backlog stood at EUR 7.4 billion. That pipeline is what Metzler expects to underpin growth through 2030.

Yet the gap between operational progress and share performance remains glaring. Record order intake and expanding margins have done little to arrest the decline.

A Calendar Full of Catalysts

Several near-term events could shape how institutions view the company. Renk attends the Danske Bank Defence Day in Stockholm on September 15, followed two days later by a roadshow with ODDO BHF in Dublin. The stretch concludes with the Berenberg/Goldman Sachs 15th German Corporate Conference in Munich on September 23.

These gatherings give management a platform to walk fund managers and analysts through production expansion plans and the order situation directly. Given the recent weakness, appetite for clear guidance on medium-term demand is likely to run high. Whether the conversations draw fresh institutional buyers or merely confirm existing positions will only become visible in subsequent WpHG filings.

Adding to the puzzle: the company's announcement—now just over a week old—that it will more than triple gearbox output at its Augsburg plant to over 2,000 units annually by 2030 has not supported the stock. Nor did an analyst upgrade last Tuesday, after which the shares have traded roughly 5.4% lower.

For investors, the setup cuts both ways. Voting-rights disclosures point to sustained institutional engagement, while the price action tells a more cautious story. The coming investor events may soon reveal which narrative prevails—and for those who share Metzler's conviction, the distance between EUR 42.20 and a EUR 75 target leaves considerable room should the third quarter indeed prove a turning point.
