Renk Keeps Its Buy Ratings Even as the Miba Sale Resets the Earnings Yardstick

Renk fell 2.3% with a soft German market as DZ Bank and Barclays cut price targets but kept positive ratings after the Miba bearings sale.

Renk's shares slipped 2.3% yesterday, a move that landed against a soft German market rather than on any single company disclosure. Both the DAX and the MDAX retreated into the weekend, weighed down by disappointing French economic data and lingering unease over high oil prices and artificial-intelligence valuations. For anyone reading the drop as a verdict on Renk's restructuring, the distinction matters: the reorganization changes the basis on which the company is valued, but it does not by itself explain a single session's price action.

What the market was actually chewing on is the guidance Renk adjusted on Thursday, alongside its agreement to sell the plain bearings business to Austria's Miba. Traders quoted by dpa-AFX read the revised outlook as a modest trimming of operating profit expectations, not merely the arithmetic consequence of carving out a division. Strategic refocus, in other words, has not been enough to quiet concerns about near-term earnings.

A Smaller Company, a Different Benchmark

The disposal, struck through subsidiary Renk GmbH, is designed to sharpen the group's emphasis on defense. No purchase price was disclosed. Completion depends on the usual regulatory clearances, so the transaction is not yet closed.

That unfinished status matters for how the numbers should be read. Renk's forecast covers fiscal 2026 on a continued-operations basis: roughly EUR 1.4 billion in revenue and adjusted EBIT of EUR 240 million to EUR 255 million. These figures describe the business that remains, not the group as it stood before the separation. The plain bearings unit had previously contributed about 10% of group revenue, and from the fourth quarter of 2026 it will be reported as a discontinued operation.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

Lower Price Targets, Unchanged Convictions

The analyst response illustrates a split that investors should not blur. DZ Bank cut its fair value to EUR 56 from EUR 64 yesterday while keeping a "Buy" rating; analyst Holger Schmidt tied the revision to the announced acquisitions and disposals. Barclays had already come out on Thursday in favor of the bearings exit and the sharper defense focus, yet that strategic endorsement did not spare its price target, which came down to EUR 57 from EUR 60 with an "Overweight" rating intact. JPMorgan, for its part, adjusted its valuation model yesterday to reflect the sale.

A lower fair value, then, is not the same thing as a downgrade. The recommendations stayed positive even as the estimates behind them moved.

The Order Book Runs on a Longer Clock

Further out, the demand picture tells a different story than the current profit debate. Roughly two weeks ago Renk agreed an order extension with KNDS Deutschland covering HSWL-354 transmissions together with their control units and gear selector switches. The contract is worth about EUR 130 million, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2029 and wrap up in 2032.

Renk Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

That backlog supports the defense narrative but says nothing about how the next few quarters will look. Strategic focus, long-dated orders and operating profit expectations are three separate yardsticks, and it is the last of them that has been under pressure.

The next hard data point arrives on 5 November, when Renk has scheduled its quarterly statement for the first nine months of 2026 along with a conference call. Attention will center on the operating performance underlying the revised guidance base.
