Renk Rewires Its Shareholder Base as Record Backlog Keeps the Defence Story Intact

Renk Group's equity is telling two stories at once. On the trading floor, the defence gearbox maker's shares have surrendered roughly a quarter of their value since the start of the year, weighed down by fading takeover chatter and a reshuffling of its largest investors. On the order books, business has rarely looked stronger.
The stock changed hands at 41.26 euros, a decline of 24 percent year-to-date, with a separate reading of 41.70 euros marking a 1.1 percent drop on the day. Even so, the price sits modestly above its 52-week low of 39.28 euros, leaving a thin cushion as the market waits for completion notices on pending deals.
BlackRock Trims, UBS Builds
The ownership register has been the source of much of the recent turbulence. BlackRock disclosed on September 8 that it had pared its voting stake to 4.13 percent from 4.18 percent, only to raise it again to 3.35 percent in a mandatory filing dated September 10. On the other side of the ledger, UBS Group AG reported a total holding of 5.08 percent, the bulk of it held through financial instruments.
Those opposing moves by heavyweight institutions lay bare how differently large players are reading the same company. Some are lightening up; others are positioning for sustained demand across the security and defence sector. The resulting flood of stock created a temporary supply overhang that pressed on the share price — a technical drag rather than a verdict on the business, which continues to hum along in its core military drivetrain markets.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?
A Half-Year Order Haul and a €7.4 Billion Mountain
The operational picture offers a sharp contrast to the equity's slide. In the first six months of 2026, Renk booked incoming orders of 1.195 billion euros, pushing its backlog to an all-time high of 7.4 billion euros. The second quarter alone delivered a record intake of 613 million euros, quarterly revenue of 354 million euros and adjusted earnings before interest and taxes of 56 million euros.
That swelling utilisation is increasingly visible in the company's operating metrics and gives management solid visibility for the months ahead. More than 90 percent of expected revenue for the year is already covered by the existing order cushion, according to the company.
Full-Year Targets Reaffirmed
Management has consequently held firm on its 2026 guidance. Annual revenue is targeted above 1.5 billion euros, while adjusted operating profit is expected to land in a range of 255 to 285 million euros, with a midpoint of 270 million euros.
David Brown Defence Deal Nears the Finish Line
Alongside organic growth, Renk is pushing ahead with expansion aimed squarely at broadening its technological base in high-precision gearboxes for maritime platforms and land systems. The company signed the purchase agreement for British specialist David Brown Defence more than a month ago; since then the share price has slipped 7.6 percent, or 6.7 percent on an alternative reading. The acquisition is slated to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

Leadership Continuity Locked In
Renk is also betting on stability at the top. CEO Alexander Sagel's contract was extended early and now runs through the end of March 2032.
For market participants, the interplay between a brimming order book and the reordering of the shareholder base remains the central axis for judging Renk's next chapter.
