Renk Wins €130 Million Gearbox Order While JPMorgan Trims Its Target
Published on 10/27/2026 at 16:41 | Editorial boerse-global.deRenk has secured a firm commitment from KNDS Deutschland for HSWL-354 transmissions, gearbox controls and gear selector switches destined for the LEOPARD 2 and its vehicle family. The extension, agreed on 14 October, carries a volume of roughly €130 million, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2029 and wrap up in 2032. It is a tangible commercial anchor rather than a bet on future defence budgets — but it says nothing about how quickly that work turns into revenue.
That distinction sits at the heart of the current debate over the Augsburg-based drive specialist. JPMorgan cut its price target on Thursday to €50 from €62 while keeping its Overweight rating, citing a slower ramp-up of German tank programmes. A lower target paired with an unchanged buy call is not a contradiction so much as a split between fundamental confidence and the timing of expected growth.
What the order does and does not prove
The KNDS deal documents real demand. It does not, on its own, dispel concerns about programme momentum, nor does a more cautious growth view render a signed contract meaningless. Both can hold true at once. The order also sets a long-dated horizon: it offers no evidence of additional shipments in the current financial year, which keeps the long-term order outlook separate from near-term earnings.
A portfolio shift that complicates the comparison
Renk is simultaneously redrawing the perimeter of its business. A good week before the KNDS announcement, it signed a binding agreement to sell its plain bearings division to Miba, subject to customary regulatory approvals. No purchase price was disclosed. Signing and completion therefore remain two separate events, and the transaction will not close until the regulators have had their say.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?
For the continuing operations, Renk has guided to around €1.4 billion in revenue for 2026 and adjusted EBIT of between €240 million and €255 million. The bearings unit is to be reported as a discontinued operation from the fourth quarter of 2026, so anyone comparing old expectations with the new figures has to account for that shift in scope.
The adjustment is not merely arithmetic. dpa-AFX reported that the lower guidance was also read as a modest operational downgrade. A changed group perimeter explains part of the debate; it does not remove the need to scrutinise what remains.
Ownership filings add colour, not direction
Mandatory disclosure notices have also been moving. A BlackRock filing published yesterday showed a combined share of voting rights and instruments of 4.05%, down from 4.13%, reflecting a threshold being crossed on Wednesday. The distinction matters: the total is not the same as direct voting rights, and a decline in the combined figure does not by itself imply a corresponding sale of stock. A UBS notice published on Friday likewise showed a lower aggregate position, slipping to 4.71% from 5.06%, of which 4.34% was held through instruments. Both filings concern ownership structure and carry no new information on the business itself.
Renk Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The November test
Renk publishes its quarterly statement for the first nine months of 2026 on 5 November, accompanied by a conference call. The value of that date lies less in another snapshot than in the chance to read order wins and operating performance side by side. Two questions deserve separating: how the continuing business performs after the announced reorganisation, and what management says about the pace of the programmes behind the more cautious analyst view. Those are yardsticks, not answers already in hand.
The larger story is Renk's transition from demand to delivery. The KNDS contract is hard evidence of the former; the discussion of slower ramps focuses attention on the latter. For investors, the question is how convincingly the company connects the two.
