Rheinmetall published Battlesuite interfaces on GitHub, signed a European vehicle alliance and booked a $7.3M Marine Corps order, while its stock fell 15% in 30 days.

Rheinmetall is pushing ahead on three continents even as its share price keeps sliding. The Düsseldorf-based defense group has just published open interfaces for its Battlesuite platform on GitHub, signed a European vehicle alliance, and booked a small but symbolically important order from the U.S. Marine Corps.

The GitHub release, announced Wednesday, covers the Onboard API and the Tactical API, according to the company's investor relations team. By opening parts of its software architecture to outside developers and partners, Rheinmetall is signaling a shift toward a more collaborative approach in its networking and systems business.

A Marine Corps Order and a Canadian Niche

American Rheinmetall has secured a $7.3 million contract to deliver twelve Mission Master SP unmanned ground vehicles along with five amphibious kits to the U.S. Marine Corps. The award runs through the Defense Logistics Agency, with ADS Inc. acting as prime contractor. Management framed the deal as a stepping stone toward future manufacturing and long-term sustainment on American soil, and as a building block for expanding the company's Maine facility and its U.S. workforce.

The Canadian subsidiary, meanwhile, is supplying spare parts for the U.S. Navy's mobile MSU-200NAV ground launch units. Taken together with the Marine Corps award, these are modest contracts — yet they sketch the profile of a group that has diversified well beyond land vehicles into maritime systems and software.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

MAN and WB Group Join the Fold

A day before the GitHub announcement, Rheinmetall, MAN Truck & Bus and Poland's WB Group sealed a strategic partnership covering military vehicles for European armed forces. The tie-up targets shared vehicle platforms for European armies and gives Rheinmetall a second strategic pillar alongside its North American operations.

How large that vehicle business could become was spelled out by CEO Armin Papperger last week: by the end of 2026, the company expects roughly EUR 12.4 billion in vehicle revenue from Germany's Arminius procurement program, which covers as many as 5,500 Boxer vehicles. That single program illustrates the volume at stake — and puts shorter-term setbacks in perspective, including the loss of the F126 frigate project to TKMS in early September, which prompted a cut to the 2026 revenue guidance to EUR 13.7 billion to EUR 14.2 billion.

The Chart Tells a Different Story

None of this has reached the tape. Rheinmetall closed Friday at EUR 993.00, down 2.1% on the day. Over 30 days the stock has shed 15%, and year-to-date it is off 36%. Measured against the 52-week high of EUR 2,007.00 set on October 3, 2025, the shares sit about 51% lower, while the gap to the 52-week low of EUR 902.50 is just 10% — the equity is trading close to its annual trough.

JPMorgan placed Rheinmetall on its "Negative Catalyst Watch" list on Thursday, and the stock has weakened further since. BNP Paribas trimmed its price target on Friday while keeping an "Outperform" rating. Press reports link the decline to JPMorgan's more cautious stance and to a broader sell-off in defense names, which came under renewed pressure Wednesday after a brief rebound. Additional weight came from reports of possible cuts to ammunition spending for 2027, even as overall German defense outlays are set to keep rising.

On the political front, the company looks sturdier than some market watchers fear. Following the AfD's election victory in a German state, research firm MWB concluded in early September that Rheinmetall faces no immediate threat in either the short or medium term.

What emerges is a split picture: operationally, Rheinmetall is expanding in several directions at once through new orders, partnerships and open software interfaces, while the stock continues to lose ground amid skeptical analyst calls and a sector-wide wave of selling. Whether the U.S. and European momentum can eventually restore investor confidence is the question that will define the coming weeks.
