Rheinmetall's Growth Engine Outpaces Its Delivery Schedule
Published on 11/06/2026 at 08:40 | Editorial boerse-global.deRheinmetall's shares shed 12% on Thursday, a day after the defense contractor trimmed its full-year outlook for the second time — and one day before it reported nine-month revenue and profit growth that most industrial groups would envy.
That contradiction sits at the heart of the investment case. The top line is expanding fast. The problem is timing.
Strong nine-month figures
Revenue for the first nine months of 2026 reached EUR 8.376 billion, up 38% year on year. Operating profit climbed 69% to EUR 1.339 billion, lifting the operating margin to 16.0%. Rheinmetall published the interim figures on Thursday.
Profit outgrowing sales is the kind of operating leverage that supports the bull case — provided it carries through to the rest of the year. For shareholders, the question is whether rising earnings power can be converted into a dependable bottom line.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?
Guidance cut twice, and why
Wednesday's revision now points to full-year revenue of around EUR 13.2 billion, down from an earlier range of EUR 13.7–14.2 billion. The operating margin target was trimmed to roughly 18.5% from about 19%.
Management blamed likely delays in awarding the Bundeswehr's Boxer project "Arminius" and in lot acceptances for artillery ammunition, along with revenue shifts in the weapons-and-ammunition business. Rheinmetall no longer expects the Arminius order this year; the associated sales — and related advance payments — slide into 2027.
The practical takeaway: when an order lands and when an acceptance is signed moves the annual numbers directly. Growth and execution have to be judged together.
JPMorgan trims its target
Analysts responded in kind. JPMorgan cut its price target to EUR 1.150 from EUR 1.350 on Thursday while keeping a "Neutral" rating, as reported by dpa-AFX. Analyst David Perry pointed to the company's repeated profit warnings.
Perry also stuck to his caution about further negative share-price catalysts, flagging the capital markets day on 27 November as a possible trigger for another review of Rheinmetall's longer-term targets. The company has scheduled the event for that date.
Rheinmetall at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
What to watch
A convincing picture would require Rheinmetall to pair its operating strength with more reliable project timelines. The capital markets day offers the next fixed reference point — and investors will be looking for a clear link between growth, acceptances and earnings planning.
The standard is straightforward: growth earns credit when its delivery becomes more predictable. Thursday's figures give Rheinmetall a solid operating foundation. Whether that foundation holds up in the valuation depends on whether announced business starts hitting the P&L within the expected windows.
