Rheinmetall's U.S. Contract Streak Runs Into a Wall of Analyst Caution

Fresh orders keep landing in Rheinmetall's inbox, yet the stock can't seem to find its footing. On Thursday, American Rheinmetall picked up a $7.3 million award from the U.S. Marine Corps for twelve Mission Master SP vehicles complete with amphibious kits — the same program that will be evaluated for autonomous ground operations, with Rheinmetall Canada lending support. The contract's stated purpose is operational testing of unmanned ground systems.
That win followed a separate supply deal two days earlier, when Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace tapped Rheinmetall for roughly $710,000 worth of components destined for MCT-30 turrets under the ACV-30 program, with deliveries stretching into 2026 and 2027. And the flow hasn't been limited to vehicles: on September 4, Rheinmetall secured a spare-parts order from the U.S. Navy, while a day earlier American Rheinmetall handed over the first Lynx XM30 prototype to the U.S. Army — seven more are expected as the company competes for the multi-billion-dollar Bradley replacement.
The breadth of that activity underscores how deeply the DĂĽsseldorf-based group has embedded itself in American procurement programs.
A European Vehicle Alliance Takes Shape
Rheinmetall's expansion isn't confined to the United States. On Tuesday, the company joined forces with MAN Truck & Bus and Poland's WB Group in a strategic partnership aimed at military vehicles for European armed forces, targeting the continent's growing appetite for land systems. Poland, in particular, is emerging as a second growth engine: Rheinmetall cited rising demand from the country as the rationale for building additional production capacity and a regional maintenance and repair hub for land-based equipment, a response to sustained defense spending by eastern NATO members modernizing their ground forces.
The Market Isn't Buying It
None of this has translated into share-price support. Rheinmetall closed Friday at €993.00, down 2.1% on the day, having slipped below the €1,000 threshold. Over the past week the stock has shed 4.0%, and the 30-day decline reaches 15%. Market capitalization now stands at €47.39 billion.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?
The disconnect has left analysts split. BNP Paribas trimmed its price target on Friday while keeping an Outperform rating. JPMorgan, by contrast, reaffirmed its neutral stance the same day and left the shares on a "Negative Catalyst Watch" — a designation the bank had already assigned earlier in the month. That mix of caution from some houses and continued optimism from others has bred uncertainty among investors.
The Forecast Cut Still Weighs
The overhang traces back to the half-year report of August 6, when Rheinmetall disclosed a €300 million reduction to its 2026 revenue guidance. After the F126 frigate project went to TKMS, the company lowered its sales target to a range of €13.7 billion to €14.2 billion.
For the first half of 2026, the group had previously reported revenue of €5.2 billion, operating profit of €786 million and an operating margin of 15% — figures that looked solid on their own but were overshadowed by the frigate loss.
Rheinmetall isn't suffering alone. According to media reports, the broader European defense sector has come under selling pressure, driven by a combination of profit-taking after strong rallies in recent quarters and a string of skeptical analyst commentary.
What cushions the picture is the order book: at the half-year mark, Rheinmetall's backlog stood at €80.5 billion, a buffer that signals operational stability even if it can't brighten near-term market sentiment.
For investors, the situation remains two-sided. A business winning contracts steadily across the U.S., Europe and Poland, backed by a brimming order pipeline, sits opposite a stock that has lost considerable altitude under the weight of lowered guidance and cautious analyst notes. Whether those two trajectories converge will likely depend on the next set of business figures or clearer signals from the analyst community.
