Rheinmetall's U.S. Momentum Meets a Market That Won't Budge

American Rheinmetall adds a $7.28M Marine Corps order and Navy spares work, but the stock sits 35% lower year-to-date ahead of Q3 results.

Rheinmetall's American subsidiary keeps stacking up contract wins, yet the parent company's share price remains stuck in a rut. The latest award — twelve Mission Master SP autonomous ground vehicles plus five amphibious marine kits destined for the U.S. Marine Corps — carries a price tag of USD 7.28 million and flows through the supplier ADS Inc. on behalf of the Defense Logistics Agency. The systems are earmarked for operational testing and for broadening the military's autonomous logistics capabilities.

That deal slots into a broader pattern of smaller but strategically weighty U.S. engagements. Earlier in September, American Rheinmetall secured roughly USD 710,000 from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace to machine components for MCT-30 turrets under the U.S. Marine Corps' ACV-30 program. Production is slated to begin across the Lapeer and Lansing plants in Michigan during 2026 and 2027. A separate spares contract for the U.S. Navy has also been booked, though its value has not been disclosed.

A Mixed Scorecard on Both Sides of the Atlantic

Not every competition has gone Rheinmetall's way. Sweden's order for modern rocket artillery went to Lockheed Martin instead — a defeat that media coverage framed as a setback in the group's push for further large European contracts. On the other side of the ledger, American Rheinmetall handed over the first Lynx-XM30 prototype vehicle to the U.S. Army, a milestone widely read as an entry point into a major American armored vehicle program.

Industrial expansion continues apace. Rheinmetall has committed EUR 270 million to a new logistics and technology hub in Kassel, scheduled to come online by the end of 2027. A strategic partnership with MAN Truck & Bus and the WB Group was announced on September 8, and reporting has also flagged a planned technology center in Neuss as a possible additional source of jobs.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

The Numbers Behind the Gloom

None of this has translated into share price strength. The stock trades at EUR 1,015.80, roughly 49 percent below its 52-week high of EUR 2,007.00 reached on October 3, 2025. Year-to-date, the shares are down 35 percent. Even so, the price sits about 12 percent above its 52-week low, hinting at some stabilization at depressed levels. The equity also remains around 7.5 percent under its 50-day moving average — a technical signal that the recent flow of operational news has yet to resonate with investors.

The broader defense sector's softer tone after a brief recovery has added to the pressure. Politically, the AfD's success in a German state election stirred debate about possible consequences for the arms industry. MWB Research, however, saw no near- or medium-term risk to Rheinmetall from that outcome.

Analysts Split as November Earnings Loom

Views on the stock diverge. MWB Research upgraded Rheinmetall from "Sell" to "Hold" in early September while keeping its price target at EUR 1,050. Goldman Sachs referenced a target of EUR 2,300 in September coverage, and Deutsche Bank reaffirmed its buy recommendation earlier in the month. The gap between fundamental assessments and the current market price remains wide.

Investors now turn to November 4, when Rheinmetall reports third-quarter 2026 figures. Whether the operational order momentum — from the Navy spares deal and the Lynx-XM30 cooperation to the MAN Truck & Bus and WB Group alliance — finally registers with shareholders will be the key question. So far, skepticism toward the defense sector as a whole has outweighed the substance of individual announcements.
