Ripple's Escrow Calendar Isn't a Sell Signal — and BNY's Custody Nod Isn't a Buy Signal Either
Published on 10/29/2026 at 21:50 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo Ripple escrow accounts still hold a combined 1 billion XRP from the October release, with no outgoing payments recorded from either address since the tokens became available, according to XRP Ledger data. The balances sit untouched even as a further 1 billion XRP is set to become releasable on November 1 at 00:00 UTC.
For holders, the distinction matters more than the headline number: reaching an unlock date triggers neither an automatic transfer nor a sale.
What the ledger actually shows
Each of the two accounts received 500 million XRP on October 1. Neither has sent XRP onward, leaving the unlocked supply exactly where it landed. That undercuts warnings of imminent selling pressure — freely available tokens are not the same thing as additional supply hitting an exchange. By the same token, the static balances say nothing about how Ripple intends to use the holdings down the road.
A separate transaction on the same day saw 700 million XRP placed back into escrow, leaving a net 300 million XRP outside the escrow lockup. The re-lock and the untouched recipient accounts describe two different operations, and conflating them muddies the picture.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
What counts, then, is not the gross size of a release but re-lockups and actual onward transfers. A headline about unlocked tokens does not answer whether those tokens ever reach the tradable market.
November's unlock needs a transaction, not just a date
Two escrow contracts, each carrying equal amounts, govern the next tranche. The time condition alone moves nothing. Only an EscrowFinish transaction can trigger the transfer — and even that step would represent a move out of escrow, not evidence of an exchange inflow or a sale. Investors should treat these procedural stages as distinct.
Should the November release be executed while the existing balances stay put, the two accounts could end up holding 2 billion XRP between them. That is a conditional scenario, not a change to available exchange supply that has already happened. Today's visible holdings argue against equating an unlock with an immediate disposal — though they do not rule out later transfers.
A $900 million run-rate that says nothing about token demand
Ripple used its Swell conference to project an annualized product revenue run-rate of roughly $900 million by the end of 2026. That is a revenue rate extrapolated on an annual basis, not a full-year figure already booked or audited.
No automatic demand effect for XRP follows. Ripple has not disclosed what share of its product activity involves XRP, and CEO Brad Garlinghouse has said fiat or RLUSD may make more sense depending on the transaction. Company growth and token demand are separate questions and should be assessed separately.
The same boundary applies to Monday's final approval of the Ripple National Trust Bank by the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. According to Ripple, the bank is intended to support reserve management for the RLUSD stablecoin and institutional custody of digital assets — tasks that, for now, sit apart from XRP itself.
BNY delivers the more direct link
Tuesday's announcement offered a closer tie to the token: BNY's digital asset custody platform now supports both XRP and RLUSD, the companies said. Unlike a broad revenue forecast, this step explicitly concerns custody of the token.
XRP at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Ripple and BNY also plan to explore options for tokenized trade finance on the XRP Ledger. The caveat is essential — this is an announced review, not a completed piece of business. And inclusion on a custody platform does not, on its own, prove additional buying.
Fund flows pull the other way
On the demand side, the latest hard data leaned cautious. US spot XRP ETFs recorded net outflows of $3.61 million on Monday, according to media reports, all of it from Bitwise's fund.
Those redemptions sit alongside the build-out of institutional infrastructure, and the two can coexist: extra custody options ease access while investors pull capital from existing products. The real test for XRP remains actual use of the new offerings. Concrete inflows or confirmed activity beyond custody support and announced explorations would carry more weight than either the escrow calendar or Ripple's revenue outlook.
