Rocket Lab Locks Down Iridium Funding as Launch Cadence and Record Sales Converge

Rocket Lab has moved on two fronts at once, stitching together the financing for its largest-ever acquisition while keeping its Electron rocket flying at a pace that has become routine rather than remarkable. The stock finished Friday at €64.90, a level that sits 7.7% above its 50-day moving average of €60.24 and reflects a 15% gain over the past seven days.
The past week's advance in space-sector names owed more to rotation than to any single company catalyst. Media reports pointed to a broad shift into pure-play space stocks on Thursday, with peers such as Planet Labs and AST SpaceMobile drawing noticeable buying interest. For Rocket Lab, that tailwind arrived just as it cleared several financial and regulatory milestones tied to its planned purchase of Iridium Communications.
A $1.94 Billion Raise Closes the Funding Gap
The centerpiece of that effort was a capital increase completed roughly a week ago, in which Rocket Lab issued about 29.3 million shares to raise $1.944 billion. The proceeds cover the cash portion of the Iridium transaction and allowed the company to fully terminate a previously arranged $3.6 billion bridge facility — a step that removes the most expensive layer of the deal's financing stack.
In a parallel move, Rocket Lab amended an existing term-loan credit facility belonging to Iridium with a volume of $1.775 billion, formally preparing it for the impending change of control. Taken together, the measures leave the acquisition's funding structure in order without any need to draw on the transitional facility.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rocket Lab?
Shareholders and Regulators Weigh In
Iridium's own investors have already signed off. Roughly 99.6% of votes cast backed the merger, a tally representing about 81.0% of the outstanding shares entitled to vote. On the regulatory side, the US Federal Communications Commission accepted the license transfer applications around two weeks ago, opening the public comment period. Subject to further approvals, the deal is expected to close in mid-2027.
Those developments strip away much of the procedural uncertainty that had surrounded the acquisition, sharpening Rocket Lab's shift from a pure launch provider into a broader space player with its own systems and orbital networks.
Electron Keeps Flying While the Deal Advances
The operational side of the business has hardly stood still. About two weeks ago, the 16th Electron mission of 2026 lifted off from Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand, carrying an Earth-observation satellite for a confidential customer. Flights for partner Synspective followed, with the company extending that collaboration. On the 96th Electron mission, the rocket delivered the twelfth StriX satellite to orbit; the 97th mission then placed the thirteenth StriX craft into low Earth orbit at an altitude of 559 kilometers.
One report placed the Synspective launch as Rocket Lab's 18th flight of 2026, a figure that underscores just how densely the manifest has been packed.
Record Revenue and a Supply-Chain Bet
The commercial numbers have kept pace with the flight rate. According to media reports, Rocket Lab posted record second-quarter 2026 revenue of $234 million alongside a record order backlog — evidence that demand for its technologies continues to run hot.
Rocket Lab at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The company is also pushing deeper into component manufacturing. It unveiled a highly efficient solar cell whose design aims to reduce reliance on critical minerals facing constrained supply, a direct response to bottlenecks in the global supply chain for space components.
What investors now weigh is how efficiently Rocket Lab converts its enlarged capacity into future earnings growth. With the Iridium financing settled and the launch tempo holding, the question has shifted from whether the pieces are in place to how quickly they translate into profit.
