Rocket Lab investors got a double dose of bad news last week: a maiden launch that won't happen until 2027, and a wave of Wall Street price-target cuts that followed. The stock bore the brunt on Friday, sliding 8.2% to close at 45.25 euros. Over the past seven days, the shares have lost 26% of their value.

The trigger was Wednesday's disclosure that the first flight of the Neutron launch vehicle — originally slated for the fourth quarter of 2026 — has slipped into 2027. The culprit: voids discovered in the carbon-fiber composite forward dome of the first-stage fuel tank. Rocket Lab said the manufacturing process has since been corrected, and qualification and assembly work continues.

The company laid out the revised timeline and development milestones in a mandatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday. That document detailed manufacturing milestones and upcoming tests for the vehicle, but stopped short of naming a specific launch date.

Goldman Sees a Heavier Cash Burn

The delay rippled through analyst models on Thursday. Goldman Sachs' Noah Poponak kept his "Hold" rating but cut his price target to $67 from $75. Poponak now expects Neutron's maiden flight in the second quarter of 2027 and flagged additional spending and a higher cash burn over the coming quarters.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rocket Lab?

KeyBanc's Michael Leshock also adjusted his estimates on Thursday, maintaining a "Buy" rating while lowering his target to $100 from $135. Leshock cited the revised Neutron schedule as well as valuation discounts across high-growth space stocks.

Citizens followed on Friday, trimming its target to $90 from $130 while sticking with "Market Outperform." The firm tied the adjustment chiefly to the timing impact on revenue from later rocket launches. Other houses have likewise reworked their valuation models to account for the shifted horizon.

Revenue Timing in Focus

Despite the cuts, both KeyBanc and Citizens remain constructive on the space company — a signal that the concern is about timing rather than thesis. The delay pushes revenue from subsequent flights in fiscal 2027 and 2028 further out than previously modeled, according to media reports citing industry observers. Reuters and the Los Angeles Times linked the pullback to the Neutron setback.

For Rocket Lab, the tank-manufacturing hiccup raises execution risk at a pivotal stage of development. Beyond the technical hurdles, financial discipline now moves to center stage as investors watch for progress on preparations for the new 2027 launch window.
