SanDisk's 6.6% Monthly Slide Meets a Raised Mizuho Target as Management Pushes Back

SanDisk finds itself caught between two competing narratives. On one side sits a jittery market that has spent the past month trimming exposure to memory chips; on the other, a sell-side analyst upgrading his price target and a management team insisting the NAND business has structurally changed.
The stock finished Friday at EUR 1,420.00, down 1.4% on the day. Over a 30-day window, the decline adds up to 6.6%. Even so, the closing print sits 2.0% above the 50-day moving average of EUR 1,392.00 — a technical detail suggesting the medium-term floor has held even as sentiment sours.
A Sector-Wide Retreat, Not a Company Problem
The pullback has less to do with SanDisk specifically than with the broader semiconductor complex. Rising US Treasury yields, firmer oil prices and reports of softening NAND pricing all combined to pressure memory names. When a sector heavyweight strikes a cautious note, nerves across the storage segment flare up almost instantly.
That pattern repeated this week. Yet the market's reflexive pessimism clashes sharply with how SanDisk's own leadership reads the cycle. Eric Cherrstrom, VP of Market Intelligence, argued on Wednesday that robust flash demand and technology transitions on the supply side are pushing the historical revenue baseline for NAND structurally higher. His point: the conditions that once amplified cyclical downturns may now be cushioning them.
That is not an independent market forecast, and it should not be treated as one. But it does reveal a notable degree of confidence inside the company — confidence that stands in direct contrast to the selling pressure visible on the screen.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SANDISK?
Mizuho Steps In With a Higher Target
Reinforcing that view, Mizuho raised its price target on SanDisk from $1,875 to $2,050 on October 5, reiterating a buy rating. The catalyst cited: growing demand for agent-based AI.
The term describes a shift in how artificial intelligence operates. Rather than simply answering queries, agentic models plan and execute multi-step tasks, continuously interacting with their environment, calling external tools and holding persistent intermediate states. For chipmakers, that translates into enormous data volumes that must be processed with minimal latency — a workload profile that puts memory architecture, not just processing power, at the center of the AI buildout.
Whether SanDisk can convert this structural shift into durable revenue is the open question. The analysts' optimism rests on the assumption that autonomous systems will ignite a fresh demand cycle. The market, for its part, is not pricing in technological fantasies unchecked — it wants hard evidence of profitable growth.
Insider Filing and Governance Calendar Draw Scrutiny
Two company-level developments are also on investors' radar. Chief Legal Officer Bernard Shek sold 600 shares on October 1 under a pre-arranged Rule 10b5-1 trading plan. Such transactions are routine among US executives, but in jittery phases they tend to invite questions.
Separately, SanDisk filed proxy materials on Tuesday for its annual shareholder meeting, set to take place virtually on November 17. The agenda includes the election of eight directors, a vote on executive compensation and ratification of KPMG LLP as auditor for fiscal 2027.
October 29 Is the Real Test
None of the competing narratives will be settled by price action alone. According to media reports, SanDisk will report first-quarter results for fiscal 2027 on October 29.
Only then will it become clear whether the bullish case for agentic AI applications has already shown up in the order book — and whether Cherrstrom's thesis of a structurally higher NAND baseline is reflected in the numbers. Until that print lands, Mizuho's upgraded target remains a welcome vote of confidence. The burden of proof now rests with management.
