Santhera's AGAMREE Sales Momentum Builds While the Stock Idles
Published on 10/08/2026 at 04:50 | Editorial boerse-global.deBig pharma names have a way of soaking up capital even on directionless trading days, and Switzerland's heavyweights proved the point again this week as Novartis and Roche both managed gains in a mixed market. Santhera Pharmaceuticals, by contrast, slipped 2.8% to EUR 15.78 — a move that came with no fresh corporate announcement and no analyst downgrade attached to it.
That kind of drift on a quiet session is familiar territory for biotech. Once a research-driven company has pushed its interim figures into the market, the immediate attention of traders tends to fade quickly, leaving the shares to mark time until the next milestone lands.
What the half-year report actually showed
The waiting game looks less patient when set against the numbers Santhera delivered just over a week ago. Total revenue for the first half of 2026 doubled to CHF 48.3 million, up from CHF 24.0 million a year earlier. Product sales did much of the heavy lifting, climbing 48% to CHF 17.2 million as commercialization of the company's lead asset AGAMREE gathered pace — market access and reimbursement revenue for the drug both moved in the right direction.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Santhera Pharmaceuticals?
Costs moved the other way. The operating loss narrowed noticeably to CHF 6.6 million, a marked improvement on the substantially larger shortfall booked in the prior-year period, suggesting scale effects are beginning to take hold while the expense base stays in check.
Guidance holds, and so does the cash runway
Management left its full-year revenue target untouched at CHF 80 million to CHF 90 million for 2026, a reaffirmation that gives some visibility to the coming months. On the liquidity front, Santhera expects cash reserves to remain broadly at the level seen on September 30 through year-end, with a decline not anticipated until the first half of 2027. The company has stated that no additional financing will be needed on that basis.
A valuation question that won't resolve itself
For all the operational progress, investor caution persists — biotech carries a long memory for past setbacks, and the path to sustained profitability is rarely a straight line. The gap between a improving income statement and a sluggish share price captures that tension neatly: multinational pharma groups can lean on institutional flows even when the broader market lacks direction, while mid-cap names feel every dip in trading activity far more acutely.
Whether Santhera's stock eventually reflects the commercial traction behind AGAMREE depends on execution from here. If the revenue targets are met and losses keep contracting, the skepticism currently baked into the price could give way to a re-rating. Until then, shareholders are left doing what the market does best in quiet stretches — waiting.
