SAP Bets on ABAP Backbone and TechWolf Deal as Users Demand AI Clarity

SAP used its annual user conference stage this week to lay out a two-track message: ambitious AI-driven automation on one side, and a pointed demand for practical guardrails from its own customer base on the other. The Deutschsprachige SAP-Anwendergruppe (DSAG) opened its congress on Tuesday by pressing the Walldorf software maker for greater flexibility in deployment models, binding product roadmaps, and firm rules governing how artificial intelligence is used in day-to-day operations.
DSAG chairman Jens Hungershausen made clear that on-premises systems and hybrid architectures remain indispensable for companies across the DACH region. From the user group's standpoint, SAP's AI vision still has to prove itself in real-world business settings, and the association is insisting on dependable terms covering costs, usage rights, and governance for those tools.
ABAP as the Technical Spine
SAP, for its part, is pressing ahead with its product roadmap. The company sketched out further steps in delivering autonomous enterprise processes, with the long-established ABAP platform positioned as the execution layer for interconnected software systems. The move responds to growing demand from large customers to link new algorithms directly with existing corporate data, ensuring business workflows can be automated without friction. For investors, how well SAP integrates existing system landscapes is seen as a decisive factor in the success of its digitalization strategy.
SVP Sonja Liénard said the ABAP environment serves as the central technical backbone for implementing agentic systems. Through the end of the year, the group is concentrating on three priorities: expanding migration tools, delivering sovereign cloud solutions, and implementing specialized MCP tooling.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SAP?
That foundation underpins the rollout of newer tools such as Joule Work and Joule Assistants. According to the company, 110,000 of its own employees already use Joule Work in their daily routines, with productivity gains of 20 percent reported across finance, HR, and procurement. SAP is also widening its partner network, adding collaborations with the likes of Moody's and ORO Labs to deepen its enterprise offering, while announcing SAP Pay, its own payment processing service built on Tereina.
TechWolf Acquisition and Buyback Support
To strengthen its human resources capabilities, SAP agreed on Monday to acquire TechWolf, a provider of AI-powered work intelligence. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. The parties did not disclose financial terms.
The company is simultaneously underpinning its share price through an ongoing repurchase program. On September 29, SAP reported buying 590,000 of its own shares during the weekly trading period, bringing the cumulative total to 8,895,886 shares. The stock trades 3.2 percent above its 50-day moving average.
Sector M&A Lifts the Stock
Shares of the software group rose 1.8 percent on Tuesday to EUR 188.94, a day after gaining 0.9 percent to EUR 187.12. Market participants attributed the upbeat sentiment in part to signals from the broader technology sector.
Additional momentum came from a major industry deal, according to media reports. French conglomerate Schneider Electric on Monday agreed to acquire U.S. company PTC for USD 205 per share in cash, valuing PTC at roughly USD 22.6 billion and stirring heightened sector interest in European software names.
SAP at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
SAP is currently in its quiet period ahead of the next financial reports, and continued to repurchase its own shares through the Xetra trading system as planned.
Investors will get their next operational read in about two weeks. Third-quarter 2026 results are scheduled for release on October 21, 2026, at 22:05 CEST, followed by a conference call for investors and analysts at 23:00 CEST. That interim scorecard should show how much the new offerings are contributing to revenue momentum.
