ServiceNow used the past week to lay out an argument that its artificial intelligence business is maturing from product promises into governed, auditable operations. Whether shareholders buy that case now hinges less on the announcements themselves than on a single forward-looking metric: the outlook for short-term remaining performance obligations in the closing quarter.

That number took center stage on October 29, when the stock came under pressure following quarterly results. According to media reports, investors focused on guidance pointing to a slowdown of roughly 250 basis points in CRPO growth for the fourth quarter compared with the third. The reaction set up a familiar tension for the enterprise software maker — visible AI momentum on one side, questions about near-term business dynamics on the other.

A Partner With a Track Record

The most concrete piece of the AI story arrived Thursday, when ServiceNow and LTM announced an expansion of their partnership aimed at scaling the controlled deployment of autonomous AI agents. The two companies point to more than 700 shared customers, and LTM says it has already run 1,500 ServiceNow AI agents in its own operations. That gives the tie-up a practical foundation — existing client relationships and hands-on usage rather than a venture built purely on a press release.

The word "controlled" carries weight here. As more corporate tasks migrate to AI agents, questions of accountability, oversight and traceability move to the fore. ServiceNow stands to benefit if customers come asking for control over such applications bundled with their rollout.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ServiceNow?

Governance as a Product Line

That reading fits the Control Tower Alliance unveiled on October 28. Founding members include Anthropic, AWS, Cisco, NVIDIA and OpenAI, and the initiative is designed to help enterprises adopt and steer AI. ServiceNow is effectively addressing both halves of the same decision: which tasks agents can take on, and under what rules they should operate. The alliance bolsters that positioning, provided the collaboration yields workable solutions for customers.

How large the oversight gap may be is illustrated by media coverage published October 23 of a ServiceNow survey on AI-agent security incidents at UK companies. Among those polled, 88% reported such an incident in the preceding year, yet only 36% said they had contained one within 24 hours. The findings underscore a problem ServiceNow can build its pitch around — and the argument gains force for investors if companies translate security concerns into concrete requirements for deploying and running AI.

From Agents to Everyday Workflows

Product news filled out the week. On Wednesday, ServiceNow added a Hiring Assistant to its Productivity Assistants for HR Service Delivery, alongside assistants for executives and HR leaders. Per company statements, these tools are initially available only to a limited extent. The same day, ServiceNow and the NBA extended their partnership, with the league set to use EmployeeWorks for onboarding new staff and handling internal workplace-service requests. Deployments like these make the value tangible — a clearly bounded process offers a sharper test than a general promise of higher productivity.

The OpenAI relationship also widened. On October 28, the two companies expanded their collaboration to include a ServiceNow plugin for ChatGPT, which ServiceNow says is available in the OpenAI marketplace. Further joint work is planned on cybersecurity, a Codex integration into the AI Workflow Factory, and voice-driven functions for steering and controlling AI.

Headcount and a Calendar Marker

Running alongside the AI push, ServiceNow announced a fresh global round of layoffs, according to media reports, affecting staff in the UK, the US and India. The company did not disclose a number of affected positions.

ServiceNow at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Investors will get another data point on November 12, 2026, when Josh Kahn is scheduled to take part in a moderated conversation at the BMO Technology and Innovation Leaders Conference, beginning at 7:00 a.m. Pacific time.

For now, the yardstick is the intersection of deployment, controllability and commercial success. The LTM expansion offers a tangible starting point. It becomes more persuasive if deployed agents and shared customers turn into durable business — and if the contract pipeline backs up the story.
