Siemens has set the stage for one of its biggest structural changes in years, announcing on Thursday that it will spin off and deconsolidate Siemens Healthineers in 2027. The proposal will go before shareholder meetings in February 2027 for approval, and the healthcare unit is set to rename itself simply Healthineers once it stands on its own.

The news landed in a rough week for European equities. Reuters reported broad-based losses across the continent's bourses as uncertainty over AI stocks rattled investors, and Siemens shares shed 2.9% in that weak environment. German broadcaster tagesschau pointed to the selloff on Wall Street and mounting doubts about the returns on multibillion-dollar AI investments as the trigger for the pressure on the domestic market.

Rail Business Takes Center Stage

While the healthcare separation grabbed headlines, Siemens kept building out its mobility arm. On Wednesday the company completed its acquisition of several core businesses from Italy's MERMEC Group after securing all required approvals. The acquired operations, which fall under Siemens Mobility, generated roughly EUR 430 million in revenue in fiscal 2025 and employ about 1,700 people.

A day later, Siemens opened a new rail infrastructure technology and innovation center in Chippenham, UK, backing the site with a EUR 115 million investment. According to the company, the facility safeguards 800 local jobs.

Siemens Mobility also unveiled a joint initiative with Lufthansa Technik Defense on Tuesday. The two partners signed a letter of intent for a rail-based patient transport train designed for military evacuations as well as civilian disaster response. The train is slated to carry more than 150 patients.

Elsewhere in the group, Siemens Digital Industries presented a new ELV drive solution on Monday for automated guided vehicles and mobile robotics, built around the Sinamics E210 converter and Simotics E 1EE1 servo motors.

Deutsche Bank Stays on the Sidelines

Deutsche Bank Research kept Siemens at "Hold" with a price target of EUR 270. Analyst Gael de-Bray flagged mixed signals from competitors' automation results, while describing the order trend in Siemens' electrification business as still strong.
