Silver Climbs 2.4% as Buyers Pounce, but a 2027 Surplus Looms Over the Recovery
Published on 11/02/2026 at 10:32 | Editorial boerse-global.deSilver changed hands at 50.34 USD per troy ounce at today's spot close, a 2.4% advance that marks a rebound from the selling pressure of the prior week. The bounce follows a bruising Friday session in which the metal shed 6.3% to settle at 49.14 USD an ounce — a slide that had little to do with silver's own supply-and-demand story.
Why Friday Hurt So Much
Two forces converged on the precious metals complex late last week. Inflation worries and expectations of a longer stretch of elevated interest rates weighed on the sector, according to Reuters. At the same time, a selloff in technology shares — driven by heavy spending on artificial intelligence — forced investors to raise cash, and that liquidity squeeze may have pushed them to liquidate other holdings, silver among them. When losses elsewhere need covering, bullion and metals are often the first assets sold. Such flows can deepen a downward move without any real change in longer-term expectations.
Cheaper crude offered some relief today, easing inflation concerns and lending support to precious metals. Yet the first wave of bargain hunting does not by itself signal a durable turn. Restrictive rate expectations and the aftermath of liquidity-driven selling continue to cap the recovery, and technical readings point the same way: overhead resistance limits the rebound, with warnings of further losses should the recent low give way again.
Two Horizons, One Metal
The near-term picture and the long-term outlook are pulling in different directions. A Reuters poll of 30 analysts and traders puts the average annual silver price at 70.30 USD per ounce for 2026 and 66.75 USD for 2027 — implying a lower average next year than this year. These are annual averages, not short-term trading targets or year-end calls, so they cannot be lined up directly against point forecasts.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Silber Preis?
UBS CIO takes a more constructive view: 70 USD per ounce by December 2026, 75 USD by mid-2027 and 80 USD by September 2027. Even so, the bank sees scope for further selling pressure in the near term. A higher medium-term target, in other words, does not mean the recent decline is over.
The Supply Side Pushes Back
Metals Focus supplies the counterweight, forecasting a global silver surplus in 2027. Flows tell a similar story: roughly 60 million ounces have left investment products since January. That matters because the balance depends on more than mine output — inventory levels and demand for silver investment vehicles are part of the equation too. Outflows of that size show that an optimistic price forecast does not automatically translate into sustained buying of investment products.
The Calendar Takes Over
Attention now shifts to the US jobs report, due Friday, 6 November, one of the next key markers for rate expectations. Strong employment data could cement the case for a December rate hike and put the brakes on the recovery once more. The US midterm elections on 3 November are also in focus.
Silber Preis at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
For silver, the two time horizons sit side by side: short-term relief from softer oil prices, longer-term uncertainty about the market balance. The loftier price forecasts remain just that — expectations, and fragile ones if the surplus Metals Focus anticipates materializes. The purchases seen today speak to demand after a selloff. Only fading selling pressure and a move through technical resistance would make the cautious reading more convincing.
