Silver's Buyer Strike-Back: BullionVault Clients Add a Tonne as Macro Headwinds and Mine Woes Pull in Opposite Directions
Published on 11/06/2026 at 22:11 | Editorial boerse-global.deBullionVault's client base turned aggressive buyers of silver in October, adding almost a tonne on a net basis as the metal's recent slide tempted bargain hunters back onto the platform. Total holdings across the dealer now stand at 1,140 tonnes, and the number of silver buyers jumped 36.9% from September — a rare bright spot for a market still working through the aftermath of a sharp selloff.
The spot price finished the day at 51.98 USD per troy ounce, leaving the recent shakeout firmly in charge of the broader picture despite the pickup in retail-style accumulation. Whether that buying can offset the drag from industry is the question now shaping the debate.
On the supply side, the case for silver rests on a projected shortfall. The Silver Institute expects a global deficit of 46.3 million ounces in 2026, even as industrial fabrication is forecast to slip 3% — a decline the Institute links partly to lower silver consumption per solar module. Existing above-ground inventories could bridge that gap, according to media reports, so the price impact of the deficit depends heavily on how much of that metal actually comes to market. The LBMA reported 28,985 tonnes of silver held in London vaults at the end of the quarter on 14 October, up 3.22% from the prior quarter-end.
Mine disruptions add a second supply-side wrinkle. First Majestic Silver said yesterday that its third-quarter 2026 silver output fell 11% to 3,440,447 ounces, weighed down by the strike at San Dimas. The mine has been idled since 18 September, and a ruling on the legality of the strike is expected in the second half of November.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Silber Preis?
Countering those supports, the macroeconomic backdrop has turned less friendly. A firmer oil price is stoking fears of sticky inflation and persistently high interest rates, Reuters reported, while US labour-market data pushed the dollar and Treasury yields higher. The Labor Department reported 165,000 new jobs for October and an unemployment rate down to 4.1%. Silver's close of 51.92 USD per ounce came against that crosscurrent of conflicting impulses: the tailwind from easier rate expectations has faded, and costlier crude has injected fresh inflation uncertainty.
Wednesday had looked different — silver gained then on a weaker dollar after the Democrats swept both chambers of Congress, a move Reuters attributed to the US currency's slide. Technology-led equity selling had also weighed on the industrially geared metal a day earlier, and falling US yields plus fading expectations of further rate hikes failed to fully offset that headwind at the time.
Physical demand is offering only patchy support. Media reports from 30 October said India's festive buying of silver coins and bars failed to revive despite the steep price drop, though jewellery demand held up better. That split puts extra weight on the coming season: Diwali on 8 November is a traditional trigger for jewellery and bar purchases, but it is unclear whether volumes will match last year's, according to the reports. A broader demand impulse would need investment products to join jewellery in drawing buyers — and cautious consumers are capping that prospect for now.
Silber Preis at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Chinese supply offered modest relief, with silver bar output down 5.03% in October from September, blamed on holiday interruptions at recycling operations and maintenance work at copper smelters. Further scheduled maintenance could keep a lid on output later in the year — supportive for prices, provided weak demand does not swallow the effect.
The next scheduled macro marker is the release of US October consumer price data on 10 November, which could shift rate expectations once again. A more durable recovery would need either the pressure from the dollar and yields to ease or physical purchases to strengthen. For now, that combination of monetary relief and demand revival remains the missing piece.
