SK Hynix Locks In More Than Half of 2027–28 Output While Solidigm's Listing Plans Go Quiet
Published on 10/28/2026 at 06:30 | Editorial boerse-global.deSK Hynix shares drew fresh attention on two fronts this week: a double-digit rally fueled by renewed optimism around artificial intelligence, and a disclosure that long-term supply agreements already cover the bulk of its future production. The South Korean memory maker climbed 11% as its own results and overnight gains on Wall Street lifted chip stocks across the country, according to media reports.
The advance belongs to a broader recovery in Korean semiconductor names rather than to any single company announcement. Anthropic's filing for a stock-market listing has brightened sentiment toward AI-related equities, and Reuters ties the upswing partly to that impulse. Unexpectedly strong South Korean economic growth in the third quarter added to the mood.
Contracted Capacity Extends Well Past the Current Year
Beyond the day's price action, SK Hynix offered a detail with longer reach: long-term agreements already account for more than 50% of production capacity for 2027–2028. That binding coverage stretches well beyond the current fiscal year and gives investors a view of already-committed utilization, not just recent trading.
It is not a full hedge on output, nor a guarantee of future profit. Separately, the company expects HBM4 to become its leading product from the fourth quarter of 2026, and it believes memory supply tightness could persist until 2030. Both are projections. The distinction matters: the contract coverage is confirmed, while the market outlook remains a forecast.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SK Hynix?
Record Third-Quarter Figures Set the Backdrop
The economic foundation comes from record results for the third quarter of 2026. SK Hynix reported revenue of 104.6155 trillion won and an operating profit of 83.3338 trillion won. The company plans to publish those results on October 28 before 9 a.m. Seoul time.
Strong operating momentum has not, however, lifted every valuation expectation. A gap persists between business dynamics and the upside analysts are willing to grant. Cantor Fitzgerald cut its price target to $250 from $300, with analyst C.J. Muse keeping an "Overweight" rating — a lower mark paired with a still-positive call.
Additional shareholder-return measures that have been announced remain subject to a board resolution. The company has not confirmed a special dividend of 16 trillion won, leaving a clear line between the day's sentiment-driven move and corporate decisions still pending.

Solidigm Review Ends, Funding Need Does Not
Meanwhile, financing the US production capacity of subsidiary Solidigm remains a subject of its own. On Friday, SK Hynix ended its review of a possible pre-IPO financing and an initial public offering, citing capital-market conditions and the trajectory of share prices.
The investment requirement persists, and SK Hynix said it will keep examining alternative funding and investment routes for Solidigm's growth and the expansion of US output. Halting the listing review does not mean the expansion plans have been shelved — the search for other financing is now the focus. For investors, the two threads run side by side: long-term supply agreements sharpen visibility on the business, while funding the planned Solidigm investments stays an open task.
