SoftBank Group wrapped up the early redemption of its 2.875% euro-denominated bond on Friday, extinguishing every outstanding senior note under the issue well ahead of its scheduled maturity on January 6, 2027. The retired principal came to EUR 405,103,000. With the securities cancelled, nothing from the tranche remains in circulation.

The same day, the group's board signed off on an interim dividend of JPY 5.50 per share. The payout totals JPY 31,346 million and is due to reach shareholders on December 2, 2026. Management said the distribution matches the forecast it had already issued for the fiscal year running through March 2027.

AI enthusiasm lifts the stock

Investors gave the stock a lift as the housekeeping was announced. Shares climbed 4.3% on Thursday, catching a wave of renewed enthusiasm for artificial intelligence that Reuters linked to the AI trade's momentum and to Anthropic's stock-market filing. SoftBank ranks among the sector's heavyweight backers. The rally carried into Friday, with the stock adding 2.4% as Asian AI names advanced across the region — a move AP tied to Wall Street's earlier gains in the same theme. AP had already counted SoftBank among Tokyo's winners in the prior session.

Allied Universal talk still at an early stage

Alongside the completed financing steps, a possible acquisition remains in the air. Reuters reported on October 16 that SoftBank was weighing a purchase of US security-services provider Allied Universal from its owners. A deal on that scale could value the company at roughly US$18 billion.

Talks were at an early stage, according to the report, and neither a final decision nor a firm price had been reached. SoftBank declined to comment to Reuters. The figure should therefore be read as an order of magnitude for a potential transaction, not an agreed offer.

Second-quarter results due November 10

The next confirmed date on the calendar is November 10, 2026, when SoftBank has scheduled the presentation of its results for the second quarter of fiscal 2026. The reporting window covers the six months to September 30, 2026.
