Thyssenkrupp's Paper Gains: Analyst Targets Rise While Ownership Filings Shift

Two brokerages have lifted their price targets on Thyssenkrupp, and a pair of voting-rights notifications have reshuffled the reported ownership picture — but neither development tells investors anything definitive about whether the group's steel turnaround is actually working.
Higher targets, unchanged verdicts on the business
Jefferies raised its target to EUR 16.50 from EUR 13.00 on 7 October, according to media reports, while keeping its buy rating intact. AlphaValue/Baader Europe went further the following Thursday, upgrading the stock from "reduce" to "add" and moving its target to EUR 15.50 from EUR 14.10. Both houses now point in the same direction, though they stop short of naming the same number.
The shares responded. Friday brought a solid advance, and Thursday added 1.2% on the day. Whether the analyst moves caused either session is an open question — the timing is suggestive, but nothing confirms a link. What the upgrades do not represent is evidence of improved operating results.
The steel targets that still have to be earned
A clearer yardstick sits in the medium-term goals Thyssenkrupp Steel presented roughly two weeks ago. Management is chasing at least EUR 1.2 billion in adjusted EBITDA, an adjusted EBITDA margin of no less than 11%, and a positive free cash flow. More than EUR 800 million of the earnings improvement is supposed to come from the company's own measures, which means the plan's success hinges on how well Thyssenkrupp Steel executes.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Thyssenkrupp?
Those figures are ambitions, not reported results. Keeping expectations separate from actual performance matters here, because the higher price targets supply a valuation impulse without supplying new financial data.
Amundi and Goldman: what the filings actually show
Ownership disclosures paint a more granular picture. Amundi lifted its total voting-rights share in Thyssenkrupp to 3.24%, per a notification published today, crossing the threshold on Wednesday. The bulk of that position — 3.07% — consists of voting rights, with just 0.17% held through instruments. The total rose from a previously reported 3.16%.
Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. filed differently. Its notification, published Thursday and referencing a threshold touch on 2 October, also showed a higher aggregate — but instruments dominate that position rather than directly held voting rights. For investors, the takeaway from both filings lies in the changing composition of the reported stakes, not in any signal of operational progress at Thyssenkrupp. Neither disclosure says anything about strategic intent or the reasons behind the moves.
Takeover chatter around TK Elevator
Speculation has also been circulating about the European business of TK Elevator, in which Thyssenkrupp still holds a minority stake. According to dpa-AFX, reports on 6 October that Japanese companies might bid for the unit triggered a positive share reaction. Mitsubishi Electric and Fujitec are said to be weighing offers, and the assets in question are reportedly being sold by Kone to satisfy antitrust conditions. No divestment by Thyssenkrupp has been announced, and the takeover talk remains unconfirmed.
Dates that will settle the argument
Thyssenkrupp has scheduled an investor relations roadshow in Paris for 14 October 2026. The quiet period ahead of annual results begins on 22 October 2026, with the business report for fiscal 2025/2026 due on 8 December 2026. Until that report lands, confirmed shifts in voting-rights positions and unconfirmed sale rumors should be kept firmly apart: the former document ownership structures, the latter amount to speculation. The December release is where the analysts' confidence will finally meet published numbers.
