Thyssenkrupp's Stakeholder Signals Diverge as Jefferies Bets on Steel and tk accelis

Amundi raised its voting rights share to 3.16%, Norway's fell to 2.87%, as Jefferies lifted its Thyssenkrupp target to EUR 16.50 on October 6.

Two of Thyssenkrupp's larger institutional holders moved in opposite directions with their disclosed positions, filings published Wednesday show — a split that offers no clean read on sentiment toward the conglomerate's restructuring.

Amundi nudged its total voting rights share to 3.16% as of October 2, up from 3.14% previously. Norway's Ministry of Finance, reporting on behalf of the Norwegian state, went the other way: its total share slipped to 2.87% as of October 6, down from 3.29%. Neither disclosure came with an explanation, and both figures bundle voting rights together with instruments rather than representing outright shareholdings alone — a distinction that matters, since a shift in the aggregate ratio cannot be equated with a matching purchase or sale of stock.

A Fresh Operational Foothold in India

Separately, Thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology has opened a development center in Pune focused on chassis technologies, with more than 120 engineers already on site. The move is a completed step rather than a forward-looking announcement, and it sits within the automotive technology arm — distinct from the steel business that shaped Friday's trading environment.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Thyssenkrupp?

That steel backdrop drove the shares higher. Thyssenkrupp climbed 6.2% on Friday, lifted by a broadly friendly tone across steel equities after media reports highlighted buy recommendations for Salzgitter and ArcelorMittal. The sector impulse, not company-specific news, accounts for the session's gain.

Jefferies Raises Its Target

Analyst coverage added its own layer. On October 6, Jefferies lifted its price target to EUR 16.50 from EUR 13.00 while reaffirming a buy rating. Analyst Tommaso Castello pointed to a recovery in the steel business and the planned spin-off of tk accelis as the basis for the call — an explicit assessment of Thyssenkrupp's prospects, unlike the ownership filings, which say nothing about revenue, earnings or the odds of a successful overhaul.

Reuters reported that October 28 is the targeted date for a separate listing of tk accelis, involving a 49% spin-off. Thyssenkrupp declined to confirm that specific day to Reuters, stating only that a listing is planned by the end of 2026. The distinction matters for investors: the broad plan and the reported timetable carry different levels of confirmation. A further date to watch is December 8, 2026, when the 2025/2026 annual report, the balance sheet press conference and the analyst and investor conference are scheduled.

Weighing it all, the immediate market catalyst came from the steel sector. On the company's own ledger, the opened Pune development center stands as a finished operational step, while the tk accelis listing remains a structural project still to come — and the opposing moves by Amundi and Norway are best kept apart from any operational re-rating.
