TKMS has locked in the largest surface-vessel order in its corporate history, yet the capital markets are treating the milestone with conspicuous restraint. Shares of the German naval shipbuilder closed Friday at EUR 75.20, a level that leaves the stock 31% below its 52-week peak of EUR 108.80 — even as the company's order book expands on multiple fronts.

Bundestag Committee Greenlights Second Batch

The Budget Committee of the Bundestag has approved procurement of four additional MEKO frigates, doubling the program to eight units. The first batch of four had already been funded in early July. With the latest tranche, the total package carries a price tag of roughly EUR 11.6 billion, according to a Bundesfinanzministerium document cited by Reuters.

The pure construction contract for the four new vessels amounts to EUR 5.3 billion, while the full ministerial submission for that batch is valued at approximately EUR 5.6 billion. Media reports caution that this procurement figure does not translate one-for-one into future TKMS revenue.

TKMS has designated the MEKO A-200 DEU class as the backbone of what it describes as continuous series production stretching across the coming years. The first unit is scheduled for handover to the German Navy by the end of 2029.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TKMS?

Where the Ships Will Be Built

Manufacturing will be spread across multiple yard capacities. A company spokesperson confirmed that the additional vessels will not be built at the Kiel facility. According to media reports, the first four already-approved frigates are earmarked for construction in Bremerhaven, while the production site for the remaining four has yet to be determined.

Underwater Portfolio Widens

Beyond the frigate program, TKMS is deepening its international naval footprint. Roughly two weeks ago, during the state visit of the United Arab Emirates to Germany, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the EDGE Group covering joint capabilities in underwater surveillance and submarine protection.

Three weeks prior, Britain's Ministry of Defence awarded subsidiary TKMS ATLAS UK a contract for the Next Generation Countermeasure torpedo-defense system, safeguarding 80 jobs in the United Kingdom. On September 1, the yard delivered the submarine INS DRAKON to the Israeli Navy; the vessel departed Kiel bound for Israel.

Dutch Claim Casts a Shadow — But Not on TKMS

Noise from Germany's broader procurement landscape continues to intrude. About a week ago, Dutch shipyard Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding lodged payment and release claims totaling roughly EUR 4.7 billion against the Federal Republic following the cancellation of the F126 project. That demand is directed at the German state and does not touch any claims involving TKMS.

On Friday afternoon, the stock weakened on media reports without any company-specific trigger, according to traders.

What Investors Are Watching

Despite the recent consolidation, TKMS shares remain up 14% since the start of the year. The gap to the 52-week high underscores investor caution ahead of the company's full-year results. Detailed figures on the group's economic performance will arrive at year-end: TKMS is scheduled to publish its annual financial report on December 7, 2026.
