TKMS Wins an IPO Gong While Brokers Converge From Opposite Directions
Published on 10/28/2026 at 14:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deTKMS picked up an award for its stock market debut at the IPO Night 2026 in Frankfurt, but the honour says nothing about whether the warship builder's order book is filling. That distinction sits at the heart of how investors should read a busy few weeks for the company, which has also secured fresh frigate work and drawn a pair of 115-euro price targets from two brokers heading there from opposite directions.
The prize, in the category "Outstanding Initial Public Offering," was handed out on 22 October at an event organised by Deutsche Börse and the Weimer Media Group. It recognises the listing itself rather than any new commercial achievement. On the same day, CEO Oliver Burkhard pointed to a higher order backlog alongside rising revenue and profitability — the figures that actually measure whether the business is growing.
A procurement decision carries more operational weight
More consequential for the future business was a parliamentary green light for additional frigates. The budget committee of the German Bundestag approved the procurement of four more MEKO A-200 DEU frigates from TKMS on 8 October. According to the company, the follow-on order keeps the current series production line running.
The procedural stage matters here: what was reported was approval of the purchase, not a completed delivery. Investors should therefore weigh the frigate decision separately from the listing award. Both pieces of news are positive, but they operate on different levels — one concerns the capital markets, the other the shipyard floor.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TKMS?
Two brokers, one number, opposite moves
Analyst notes paint a more nuanced picture than a single shared target might suggest. Roughly a week ago, Bernstein Research cut its price target to 115 euros from 120 while keeping its "Outperform" rating. Deutsche Bank Research moved the other way at the same time, lifting its target to 115 euros from 112 and reaffirming its buy recommendation.
So both houses arrived at the identical figure through contrary adjustments. Bernstein pointed to reduced liquidity assumptions while confirming its above-average return expectation; Deutsche Bank expects fresh momentum from the 2025/26 financial year results. The matching target should not obscure the fact that Bernstein trimmed its valuation. What both share is a continued positive recommendation.
Price gains resist a clean explanation
The recent share strength cannot be pinned neatly on any of these announcements. On 16 October, according to media reports, TKMS benefited from a broad rally in German defence stocks, helped by a friendlier market backdrop and an upbeat sector study. The stock added 1.4% yesterday, a move that on its own proves no link to the listing award or the procurement approval.
TKMS at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Keeping the threads apart is what counts for investors: the award covers the market debut, the frigate order the operating business, and the analyst targets the valuation placed on it. Upcoming dates will give the debate fresh room — a Scandi roadshow in Stockholm on 2–3 November 2026 and the Metzler investor dialogue in Frankfurt on 5 November 2026. How Burkhard's described progress shows up in subsequent business figures is the question those meetings are likely to circle.
