Wienerberger's Analyst Chorus Turns Cautious as November Strategy Update Takes Shape
Published on 10/14/2026 at 17:02 | Editorial boerse-global.deWienerberger shares advanced 2.2% to EUR 15.63 on Wednesday, a modest rebound achieved without any company-specific catalyst, riding a mildly positive European market. For long-suffering holders, it was a rare green print: the stock has surrendered 49% since the start of the year.
The bounce does little to alter a sobering picture. The Austrian building materials group now trades barely above its 52-week low of EUR 15.03 — a gap of just 1.8% as of Tuesday's close of EUR 15.30 — and the analyst community has spent the past several days marking down its expectations accordingly.
Two Houses, Two Targets, One Direction
Jefferies initiated coverage on Tuesday with a "Hold" rating and a EUR 16 target, flagging only limited recovery potential for the brickmaker. A day earlier, Wiener Privatbank had already moved, keeping its "Halten" recommendation but cutting its price target sharply to EUR 16.40 from EUR 23.10. Berenberg, for its part, trimmed its target to EUR 19 on Friday while retaining a "Buy" stance. The common thread: fair value now sits only marginally above the current share price, and the more bullish of the three houses still sees the stock as a long road back.
Jefferies analysts see meaningful recovery drivers only in 2027, pointing to the persistently weak outlook for residential construction. The cautious tone extends well beyond Vienna — high interest rates, rising costs and reticent private buyers are weighing on construction stocks across Europe.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Wienerberger?
Guidance Cut Sets the Tone
The reassessments follow Wienerberger's downward revision of its full-year 2026 operating EBITDA guidance to EUR 640–650 million. According to APA news agency reports, the company had originally targeted operating EBITDA above EUR 800 million before adjusting that goal to roughly EUR 700 million in July. For the third quarter, management projected operating EBITDA of approximately EUR 170–180 million on revenue of between EUR 1.2 billion and EUR 1.3 billion.
Management has cited two principal drags: markedly weaker demand for new residential construction, felt most acutely in the UK and North America, and steep cost inflation in raw materials, energy and logistics that has been building since late August. In response, Wienerberger has pledged to accelerate existing cost-reduction programs and to review strategic options.
UBS Trims Its Stake
Alongside the analyst reset, the shareholder register has shifted. A mandatory disclosure shows UBS reduced its position in voting rights and financial instruments to 3.96% as of October 8, down from a previously reported 4.09%.

November 12: The Date That Matters
Market participants will get their clearest read yet next month. Wienerberger has scheduled its nine-month results for November 12, 2026, and management has promised an update on the accelerated savings programs and the ongoing strategic review on the same day. Investors are hoping the report will offer firmer signals on how the year will close — and on whether the countermeasures now being rolled out can gain traction against a housing cycle that shows few signs of turning.
