Xiaomi's AI-powered agile manufacturing base in Beijing has been named among 34 proposed projects in the industrial ministry's flagship smart-factory programme, a recognition that shifts attention from product launches to how the company actually builds things. The electric-vehicle super-factory's inclusion, announced Monday, carries weight as a signal — though it stops well short of a completed selection process or any quantified gain in costs or productivity.

That distinction matters for anyone weighing the stock. Official recognition can elevate an initiative; the economic verdict still has to rest on measurable results. Treating a shortlist entry as a profit assumption would be jumping the gun.

Deliveries Tell a Sharper Story

Far more concrete — and considerably less flattering — are the shipment figures Omdia published today. Xiaomi's worldwide smartphone deliveries fell 29% year on year to 30.7 million units in the third quarter. The research firm attributed the drop partly to higher component prices and partly to the company's deepening exposure to price-sensitive markets. Even so, Xiaomi held onto third place globally in Q3 2026. Those numbers cover handsets shipped; the audit and approval of unaudited consolidated results is still pending.

The product machine, meanwhile, keeps running. Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 17 series — four models in all — in Sri Lanka today, alongside an expansion of its smart-home, fitness and lifestyle ecosystem. In China, the Redmi K100 went on sale Tuesday, with pre-orders opening the same day and the sales start set for 31 October. Xiaomi Korea used the Korea Running Expo, which runs through 31 October, to present the Smart Band 11 for its local debut, having introduced the Mijia Smart Air Purifier 6 and 6 Plus in the country on Monday. Reports also put Tuesday's launch of the REDMI Book 14 and 16 notebooks on the calendar, with sales slated to begin 3 November; the larger model packs a 72-Wh battery and the Super Xiao Ai 2.0 AI assistant.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Xiaomi?

None of that answers the question investors actually care about: what these devices contribute to revenue and earnings. A spec sheet is not a sales success, and a sales success is not automatically an attractive contribution to the bottom line. The intermediate steps deserve more scrutiny than the unveiling itself.

RMB 200 Billion Bet on Research

On the spending side, CEO Lei Jun used the World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference on 21 October to lay out an ambitious research budget. Xiaomi intends to plough more than RMB 200 billion into research and development over the next five years, up sharply from the RMB 105.5 billion invested across the previous five-year stretch.

All of it sets up the date that matters most: 24 November 2026, when the board is scheduled to review and approve the unaudited results for the third quarter and the first nine months of 2026. Xiaomi announced the meeting on 23 October.

Product launches and factory projects supply the raw material for expectations. The figures will show how much economic heft the company's activities genuinely carry — and even then, realized results will need separating from future hopes. For now the news flow points to activity, not to proven earnings progress. The results date outweighs the next device unveiling.
