XRP's Fund Flows Flip While Ripple's Escrow Overhang Grows
Published on 11/01/2026 at 16:32 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo developments landed on XRP's plate at once this week, and neither one points cleanly in a single direction. Spot XRP ETFs in the US swung from a solid day of inflows to a modest net outflow, while Ripple freed another 1 billion XRP from escrow — on top of an untouched tranche from October that never moved.
A Split Day for the ETFs
Friday's ETF tally came in at a net $496,500 withdrawn, according to media reports. That headline number hides as much as it reveals. Canary's XRPC pulled in $922,000, while Grayscale's GXRP shed $725,000. Money moved in opposite directions across the product lineup, so the aggregate figure alone doesn't capture what individual funds are doing.
What the daily close cannot show is whether investors rotated directly between products, or whether any lasting preference for one issuer has taken hold. All that's certain is that the negative total was the sum of divergent capital movements.
The picture looked very different just a day earlier. On Thursday, the US spot XRP ETFs collectively gathered roughly $8.4 million, with $5.6 million going to Franklin Templeton's XRPZ and $2.9 million to Bitwise's XRP ETF. Direction reversed in short order — a swing that matters more to investors than any blanket claim that the funds are steadily gaining or losing money. Neither statement would do justice to the recent stretch.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
Ripple's Unlock: Tokens Freed, Not Sold
Separately, Ripple released 1 billion XRP from escrow today, per media reports. Whale Alert flagged two unlocks of 500 million XRP each, carrying out the monthly release schedule. On their own, the transactions show neither a transfer to a crypto exchange nor a sale.
That distinction is the whole story. Only Ripple's follow-up transfers, sales, or re-locks will determine what the unlock means for the supply actually available to the market. This month carries an unusual wrinkle: the 1 billion XRP unlocked on October 1 sat untouched in wallets Ripple 10 and Ripple 11 through the end of October, according to media reports. Combined with the fresh release, as much as 2 billion XRP could now be sitting in Ripple-controlled wallets. A large wallet balance is not the same thing as a correspondingly large supply hitting the trading market.
The Re-Lock Pattern Is the Yardstick
Over the twelve months through October, Ripple typically re-locked around 700 million XRP — about 70% of each monthly release — leaving roughly 300 million XRP available for operations, partners, and liquidity. That pattern is a useful benchmark, though it is no promise of how the company will handle today's release. The untouched October stash makes the next steps especially worth watching.
One scenario floated in media reports envisions a re-lock of 1.7 billion XRP. It has not been confirmed. Investors should treat that figure as neither a completed relief nor an announced corporate plan.
Weak Price, Separate Question
The unlock arrives in an already soft market. XRP trades at $1.25 and has lost 16% over 30 days. That describes the backdrop, not any price effect from today's release.
XRP at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
What matters going forward is whether Ripple binds the available tokens again or actually passes them along. Today's news confirms the unlock, not its economic use. Only confirmed follow-up transactions can show whether the larger wallet holdings translate into additional market supply.
Two Signals, Two Questions
Neither story delivers a verdict on XRP. On the investment side, there are shifting aggregate balances and funds moving in different directions. On the network side, a scheduled technical fix has slipped: activation of the fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment moved from October 23 to November 4, according to media reports, after validator support temporarily fell short and the required waiting period restarted. The change is meant to close a gap in token creation and correct calculations for vault and credit functions.
Keeping the threads apart is the point. A single ETF day is no proof of a lasting demand trend, and a planned network correction on its own signals no extra XRP buying. Both developments matter — they just answer different questions.
