XRP's Institutional Buildout Meets a Supply Overhang
Published on 10/19/2026 at 19:51 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo very different stories are unfolding around XRP at the moment, and neither one settles the question investors actually care about. On the network side, a pair of infrastructure announcements point toward deeper institutional use of the XRP Ledger. On the trading side, the token is sitting on an unusually large pile of exchange-held supply while derivatives and fund flows cool off. The gap between the two is where the real debate lives.
Exchange Reserves Near the Top of the Range
Roughly 11.81 billion XRP are parked on trading platforms, according to CryptoQuant data. That places exchange balances in the 99th percentile of observations over the past 365 days — close to the upper edge of their recent history.
Available supply is not the same thing as intent to sell, and the distinction matters. A fat exchange balance is a risk flag, not proof that a wave of selling is imminent. Media reports noted that large wallets moved about 1.6 billion XRP to Binance within a month, the highest figure in six months, which underscores how closely the market is watching these reserves. Whether that transfer turns into actual selling pressure depends on what happens next; simply moving coins onto a platform leaves open the question of whether they get sold or held there.
Futures Exposure Deflates
Meanwhile, open interest in XRP futures on Binance fell 15.8% between October 4 and Saturday, landing at $453 million at the end of that stretch. Speculative positioning has been unwound even as exchange reserves stayed elevated.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
That combination paints a mixed picture. Leverage has come down, but there is no fresh spot demand to take its place. Falling futures engagement alongside heavy available supply is hardly a convincing recipe for a durable turnaround. Fund demand has not filled the gap either: U.S. spot XRP ETFs posted net outflows last week, the first after a longer run of inflows, leaving that channel without confirmation of a broader pickup in buying.
A Credit Market on the Ledger — With a Caveat
Against that backdrop, Clearpool plans to extend its institutional credit market to the XRP Ledger together with Ripple and Cicada Partners. A whitepaper published today envisions settlement in RLUSD. A snapshot vote reportedly gave the migration and network expansion 97.16% approval; the plan also involves migrating Clearpool's existing CPOOL token to CLEAR.
For XRP holders, the relevant piece is the settlement rail, not a launch. No credit offering has actually gone live yet, and more applications on the network do not translate directly into concrete additional demand for XRP. Applications can strengthen the ledger's standing with institutional users, but whether that produces sustained token usage depends on the products themselves and how they are ultimately used.
Bank Rails and a Stablecoin Milestone
Access is widening through existing financial plumbing as well. Cross River Bank announced on Thursday that it will integrate RLUSD into its core banking system, letting fintech firms use dollars and RLUSD around the clock for cross-border payments and treasury transfers via an API. The service links blockchain settlement to conventional payment routes without requiring firms to build their own blockchain infrastructure — though it is currently available only in a limited number of U.S. states.
Ripple says RLUSD's market capitalization has passed $2.5 billion, with more than $1 billion of that issued on the XRP Ledger. The stablecoin's growth is real, but it is not the same as a corresponding capital allocation into XRP. Network usage and token demand remain separate valuation questions.
XRP at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Schwartz Sets 2027 as the Yardstick
David Schwartz said yesterday, according to media reports, that the XRP Ledger deliberately focuses on financial applications rather than general-purpose computation, and that RLUSD needs to be available on other networks as well to achieve both reach and liquidity. He pointed to 2027 as the test for durable institutional adoption and named no specific products or launch dates for this year.
The token itself was at $1.31, down 29% year-to-date — meaning the institutional expansion plans are landing during a stretch of weak price action. Ali Martinez has flagged $1.25 as possible support, with a sustained close above $1.56 potentially opening the way toward $2. That is a conditional scenario, not a confirmed reversal.
For investors, the test is not simply whether a chart level holds. A convincing recovery would need to be carried by stronger buying. As long as heavy exchange balances sit alongside fading futures exposure and softer fund demand, the case that a bottom is already in place remains unproven.
